• Ozzy Osbourne, R.I.P.

    From David Dalton@dalton@nfld.com to uk.religion.christian on Wed Jul 23 01:28:02 2025
    From Newsgroup: uk.religion.christian

Early Tuesday evening I heard on CBC radio that
musician Ozzy Osbourne has died at age 76,
17 days after his final performance in his home
    town of Birmingham.

From google Ozzy was a faithful member of
The Church of England, not a Satanist. (I
myself am not a Satanist but have an individual
neopagan religion which is summarized in the
deities and messages sections of my
Salmon on the Thorns web page, and I
am not recruiting, and have no plans to
    start a new organized religion).

Some may find my post of a few hours ago
on him on alt.religion.christian to be of interest,
but I wonrCOt repeat it here since I doubt it
    would pass moderation.

If so, it was even more morally dubious for him to carry on as he did.
The newspaper reports I have seen label him as "the prince of darkness"
    - I'm not sure whether that was a name foisted on him or one he
embraced, but in any case when *I* die, I hope to be known as "a child
    of God".

Your piscene religion is noted - and I trust John will take note. This
is the sort of foolishness you get when you abandon God's revelation and instead worship something of your own devising.

There is a phrase in Scripture, "their foolish heart was darkened",
which is not all that far off the mark.

    God bless,

We never really know an artist through their work. Personally, though, I
can't imagine that he was a regular church goer.

Wikipedia has: "Though Osbourne had long been accused of being a
Satanist, The New York Times reported in 1992 that he was a practising
member of the Church of England and prayed before each show."

I tend to take that with a pinch of salt.

I rather think he was an average guy very similar to others caught up in
the world of rock fame. His mother was a Catholic, but not an
    'observant' one.

    Tim.

I am similarly dubious, though on the other hand the CofE is a very
broad church and it would not surprise me to learn that there was some
vicar somewhere who assured him that beheading bats was entirely in
accord with the Sermon on the Mount.

He has often been described as "a great showman", who knows if that was
all it was. We cannot know what was in his heart or what his relationship
with God was, maybe in the last week, knowing his end was near, he
    reconciled himself to God.

    I will not judge.

Incidentally, a close friend of mine is a heavy metal fan, he is also
involved in security (He does a lot of football events and shows at places
like Stoneleigh and the NEC) He happened to be on duty at the Villa ground
that day, I think he was the happiest man on the planet. The show lasted
for 10 hours and he was there for 15.

Apparently he believed it was made of rubber so it was intended as just a gimmick
