It's an RST 'Brixton' [1] - one of these:

The material is actually waxed! And it looks good, and when I rode
over the mountain the other day, through fog and the temp gauge
indicating 11C, I was warm as toast. And the next time I do a summer
foreign trip I can remove the lining and open the vents and hopefully
    not melt too much

Is that a water proof lining?

No, I don't think so, and for the life of me I can't imagine why you'd
want the *lining* of a jacket to be waterproof.

It's the outside that is waterproof. The lining is for warmth.

many garments, such as mesh clothing have an internal waterproof layer that
is removable e.g. the BMW Rallye trousers I bought at half price in an end
of line sale. Crap idea mind, and if using these trousers on a tour, I
prefer to fit overtrousers if it rains, as you would do with leathers.

although one of the hottest & driest places has been Yorkshire. 33C
predicted this weekend and they have been the first to enter drought and
    ban hosepipes.

I don't, which is why I have never bought one.
Jean was just never able to get a decent "womens" jacket to fit her/

Very useful things. But I usually just use my walking Rab these days.

Ha. I've just sweated like Gary Glitter at a kindergarten party moving my orphaned BMW to KL to transfer the title to my BiL to see if he can sell it. 360km with the temp gauge showing 35 and the bikes cooling fan ducted heated air
    at my legs.
