Went to a shop in M|ilaga to "try some alternatives".

Tried one made of olive wood and was almost tempted by the novelty factor,
but came home with a rather inexpensive Paco Castillo 204.

    If I don't like it, I've only wasted 632re4.

No cutout and no raised fretboard, so anything past the 12th is
    decoration.

No lights, mudguards or chain guard, so not a proper bicycle of course :-).
Nice and light though at 14kg.
Is that a reflective strip on the tyres?

We have tiny LED front and rear lamps on our bikes, not that we ever intentionally ride after dark. We're also fair weather riders and
not riding off road so hopefully mudguards are not necessary.

A reflective strip on the wheel or tire would be welcome, but the tires
are blackwalls and there's nothing reflective on the rim. Each wheel
has a ~125mm reflector affixed to the spokes (which might be a legal requirement here), which are curiously absent in the gallery photos.

It's definitely lighter than the old bike, which was heavier than
a heavy thing. I negated a bit of the weight advantage by fitting a
wire basket to the bars (at her insistence), and a Kryptonite U-lock
    to the seat stay.

A reflective strip on the tyre must add at least 5c to the production
costs but for side visability they are hard to beat IMHO.

As we have just yesterday returned from a road trip with our bicycles

a second, more expensive, e-bike purchase in the near future. This is
on top of having to purchase a trailer hitch and a hitch mounted rack

seems you are a bit out of touch with the French

wine sales are down markedly as widely reported in the press in recent
months. The French government are subsidising the grubbing up of
vineyards so they do not go back to the days of wine lakes.

The younger French are very much into beer and you are more likely to
see a Belgian or Italian lager on sale than Kronenburg. This is despite
bar prices in France being rather high at 7 euros for half a litre of Affligem.

As for beer quality, I've ridden tens of thousands of miles across
Europe and I am not noticing a quality problem.

I also like Germany (and Austria). Scraggy, SO and I were in Bavaria, Voralberg and the Mosel. We drank beer, red and white wine. Beer was
rarely more than 4 euros for half a litre of Weissbier and often less.
We had a memorable bottle of Dornfelder red wine on a Mosel cruise. So
much so, we had a second one between us on the retrun leg. That was 19
euros, so not such good value as 2.5 litres of Weizen.

seems you are a bit out of touch with the French

Quite possibly, stopped visiting regularly about 5 years ago and now
just 2-3 times a year passing through

wine sales are down markedly as widely reported in the press in
recent months. The French government are subsidising the grubbing up
of vineyards so they do not go back to the days of wine lakes.

Yes, we were close to Bordeux last year and there were clearly a lot of vineyards that had been torn up. I think wine consumption in France has
been declining for about the last 10-15 years. I think mainly due to
health concerns and probably all the old soaks with a bottle a day are
    dying off.

The younger French are very much into beer and you are more likely to
see a Belgian or Italian lager on sale than Kronenburg. This is
despite bar prices in France being rather high at 7 euros for half a

The power of trendy marketing I think rather than a major taste shift.
The ones you mentioned earlier, Leffe, Grimbergen and Affligem are all
from big brewing concerns with healthy advertising budgets.(Heineken in particular comes up with some brilliant ads)

As for beer quality, I've ridden tens of thousands of miles across
Europe and I am not noticing a quality problem.

Oh I do, I hate stale beer.

I also like Germany (and Austria). Scraggy, SO and I were in Bavaria, >Voralberg and the Mosel. We drank beer, red and white wine. Beer was

Hefeweizen is often the cheapest beer available in Bavaria which suits
me as I like it. Often go for a Helles there too which is strangely not
widely available in other parts of Germany.

Anyway, each to his own and the best beer is the beer in your hand :-)

Yes, I thought it was painfully expensive too. It cost more than 9 out

It is partially funded by a government scheme to encourage more people

You could do a lot worse than putting some time into playing the
guitar. Especially if you are regularly playing for an appreciative
    audience.

I always thought I would get serious about picking up my saxophone
(Selmer MK VI) again after I retired, but somehow I haven't quite
got around to it just yet. Neither of my kids (one played alto,
one played clarinet/bass clarinet in high school) seem to want it,
either. :( I suppose I could sell it for enough to buy another bike
but I've got more bikes than I can keep running right as it is.

That's how I've got it at the moment. Going round, through the
strap-hole and then tucked into the buckle on the strap, so nicely out
    of the way when playing.

I would not mount in in the body, would require cutting, but at some
point will get round to taking the soldered female 6.3mm Jack and
pushing the wire through - the end peg itself is already drilled from
a much earlier effort, but the cable will still be hanging.

I am strongly of the opinion that one should never consider lowering
one's standards, excepting the primary and tertiary life phases; a sort
of build up, sustain and wind down cycle.
I wonder what sort of algorithm Lidl uses to set it's beer price in
different countries? what are the variables, supply, demand,
prosperity, propensity for abuse, how much the government wants to keep
    every body happy?
I try to rule out cost when I buy beer but it is a tempting parameter.

Yebbut, French beer is not really beer is it.

Fortunatley, Leffe, Grimbergen and Affligem are widely available in
France nowadays. I even found a draught Austrian wheet beer in a bar
    in Oloron Ste Marie.

Also pleased to see the Spanish adopting brown beers like Mahou 1906
& Voll Damm Doble available on draught.

Mwaaaa.....I remain sceptical. Draught beer is often badly stored or
served and bottled beer?....check the sell by date. I think it's just
not in their DNA. Wine OTOH? yeah I'll stick to that if it's all the
    same.
Just come back from a couple of weeks in Bavaria, now that's what I
call beer, widely available, good price and taste and quality to die
for. The wine in N.Bavaria is very pleasant too. A glass of dry white
outside a cafe on a sunny afternoon was pure pleasure and the
measures!!! re45 for 0.25L (and a bit) such that you would not get 3
glasses from a normal bottle :-)

seems you are a bit out of touch with the French

wine sales are down markedly as widely reported in the press in recent months.

ThererCOs a quite substantial microbrewery thing going on too, though, according to the owner of our local pub, lots are closing down due to
energy costs. Thankfully theyrCOve mostly avoided the American-style IPA
thing and there are some very pleasant beers.

There's one I go to regularly that does five or six beers, including a
stout and a proper English-style bitter, served via hand pump. Nice,
it is. Brewer went over to the UK some many years ago to learn how it
    should be done.

Went to a shop in M|ilaga to "try some alternatives".

Tried one made of olive wood and was almost tempted by the novelty
    factor,
but came home with a rather inexpensive Paco Castillo 204.

    If I don't like it, I've only wasted 632re4.

No cutout and no raised fretboard, so anything past the 12th is
    decoration.

And now I find myself learning barre. On a classical guitar (52mm nut).

    Ouch.

Got about 40 in my book now.

Recent additions include Killing Me Softly and Sweet Home Alabama,
which has even been re-requested when I did another session-ettee last
    Sunday.

Looks a good idea. Don't think I'll be getting one as it's as expensive >>> as any two of my acoustic guitars combined.

At just over 200 francs it didn't really seem that expensive to me - I
guess it's a Swiss thing - but both of my guitars are worth a lot
more. Last time I looked at the cost of professional level mike/pic up
it was a lot more than that, alathough TBF that was just asking at my
local music shop rather than really researching it properly.

"Pre-wired output jack can also be endpin mounted"

What would the non-invasive alternative to endpin mounting be, to
run the output lead out the soundhole?

That's how I've got it at the moment. Going round, through the
strap-hole and then tucked into the buckle on the strap, so nicely out
    of the way when playing.

I would not mount in in the body, would require cutting, but at some
point will get round to taking the soldered female 6.3mm Jack and
pushing the wire through - the end peg itself is already drilled from
a much earlier effort, but the cable will still be hanging.

Done, and much neater. Routed the cable up the strap and looped
several times through the buckle loop, much more secure. My soldering
skills seem to be better than I thought. Four connections to be
remade, seems like there's an extra earth forming the outer part of
the cable as well as an internal earth wire and two signal wires.

Of course, I needed to do them twice, having failed to put the cable
through the outer body of the plug to screw back on the first time I
    did them.

A body mount through the peg hold would have been problematic, but I
did think about it. The diameter of the outer part of the jack socket
is only marginally greater than the existing hole, but the
depth/lenght of the hole is much greater, going through a part of the structural frame of the guitar, perhaps 2cm ish, so even if I were
prepared to enlarge the hole diameter it would not have been possible
with the existing hardware. In any case I wouldn't have been very
comfortable also using it as the strap mounting point.

200 francs = -u185, rather less than the -u320 it would cost here.

Actually chf228 now, 225 when I bought it in May, EU249 in EU and u235
at the UK sites of same retailer I used. https://www.thomann.co.uk/fishman_rare_earth_blend.htm

Yeah, cheaper here, lower VAT rate
