• Shoei Neotec 2

I know I'm late to the party but I just got one of these yesterday. I
thought my usual helmet was the earlier version of the Neotec but it's actually an even older Multitec.

Wow I wish I'd bought one of these a long time ago. So much quieter and generally all round more comfortable.

A little bit of extra room for my conk which always seems to get a bit squished.

I'm intending to use it on the Everest trip - the recommended helmet
type is one for goggles with a peak but I tried one and really don't
like it, way too noisy and I find goggles uncomfortable.

Everest trip may or may not happen this year as the border to Tibet is currently shut due to the bridge being washed away. I can't remember if
I mentioned this already, my short term memory is hopeless.

where did you get the Neotec 2? The v3 has been out for some time. I think
I bought by v2 in 2019 and it is my current touring helmet. I still have a serviceable v1 from 2015 or so, used for local trips, but it won't last
much longer as getting a little loose.

I have recently bought one of those flip back Nolan N120. It's a nice
helmet and even quieter than the Shoei on the V85. I'm not convinced it
will be as durable as the Shoei but it was only u180 from Sportsbikeshop as
it was a 2024 model and they have new colours. The Neotec v3 is around u600 and a bit pricey for my liking.

Used, from FB marketplace - yeah I know, but it's in perfect condition.

I was going to buy a new centre pad for my Multitec as the old one has disintegrated, but they're not even available.

    Bummer.

Shoei spares supply are not great. My v2 visor is scratched but no genuine stock anywhere. I'll live with it rather than trust one from Aliexpress.

I agree, a scratch or two I can live with, but I count on having a high
quality visor to protect me somewhat from FOD kicked up from the road.
Who knows what you'll get from Aliexpress.

If you're willing to invest some time & effort, I have had some luck
in polishing out scratches using increasingly fine grades of plastic
polishing compound, e.g. Meguiars or Novus on this side of the pond.

This might remove whatever protective coating is on the visor, if any.

I had a closer look at my Multitec. The reason they don't sell the
centre pad is because it's not removable.

I guess that one's going in the bin then.

    heh

My response to the old "if you've got a ten pound head, get a ten
pound helmet" line, from back in the day, was that I'd expect some
    change
