I seem to have been pre-empted this week. I cannot identify any rural
stories being pursued at present, simply urban stories being overlaid
with odd rustling of leaves or concern about hedges or presenting King
    Lear for the 21st Century.

I guess the future of rewilding is mainly a rural thing, and Brian and (various) umbrellas' discussions on the future of farming. But I agree,
most of recent episodes have _not_ been rural.

Well, there are two brief stories about the naivete of youth about the
country ways - Amber's reaction to the method of Bartleby's despatch and Ruaridh's foolishness with a rutting stag. Then there's Stella's new job
and what it says about agricultural renewal, and Adam's training of
Ruaridh. And the fragility of rewilding in a corporate environment.

Justin may have worthy aims and he is entitled to pursue them if he can
afford not to achieve a financial return. However he then needs to do
it through some form of charitable structure not one geared to make
profits with shareholders. Most of the major rewilding examples of
which I am aware are down to the decision of a family or similar who are
not operating a limited company with a variety of shareholders.

Ruairi and Amber which you also cited struck me as the ignorance of a
townie happening in a rural environment. Perhaps our schools could
teach about the countryside and rural matters of life death and sex
rather than some of the things they appear to feel important. Where
does the food come from, how is it produced, how does it get to you?

Yes, I've been thinking that - really since the rewilding started, but certainly since Justin got involved. Two ways I can see it getting into corporate planning: as some sort of tax write-off or fiddle, but I think
such things are being clamped down on more and more; and, PR - i. e. it
comes out of the advertising budget. That seems marginally more
plausible, but only slightly: I can't see a company like BL being that concerned about what people think of it.

There's considerable, implacable, opposition to any more sex education
in schools; I suspect even where it's to do with agriculture, there'll
be considerable obstacles put in its way.

None taken - it was meant light heartedly I assure you.

I have said it before so will repeat it. In the mid seventies the
programme was reset with three major approaches to farming:
Brian / Home / big farming with lots of grain and such like until Adam
    rowed back
Phil / Brookfield - traditional mixed farm (now somewhat lost to dairy) Pat'n'Tony / Bridge - organic
plus how not to do it at Grange Farm and the Grundies and we heard
    little about the Berrow Estate.

The writers used those distinctions to teach about the approaches and
how they worked (and sometimes not) and could be developed.

In my view there are better ways of telling stories than arguments in a
board room which is what the BL rewilding descended down to. Peggy
setup re-wilding across (I think) around 400 acres. Justin is too old
for rewilding - so how about intelligent and informed conversations
between Rex, Tony with his organic viewpoint and Adam and his soil
knowledge to develop the rewilded land and how it makes money (if only)
rather than the conflict we have had imposed on us from EastEnders or
other urban places as it is the "way to make a soap". If the individual
farm approaches were properly espoused and told by the writers,
storyliners, editor and production team then it would be useful to the population at large. Attacks on abattoirs, without a mention of halal
or exploring why Vince does not do pigs, or what the actual benefits
beavers might provide in a calm and reasoned way would be good.

David is opposed to beavers - but how does he know they will not cause a repeat of the flooding which inundated Brookfield - does he not have
reason to worry? The elements are there but not being used.

    Apologies for the rant.

    Well justified.

Plus we have only had a passing mention of IHT and how that will affect Ambridge farmers (and any other family businesses).

And no mention at all that I can recall of the sudden suspension of the
SFI in March. The updated/new scheme was supposed to have been announced
this summer but not a word about it. Farmers will be ploughing up all
the headlands and other sustainable initiatives that have grown up over
the least 20 years if they do not receive payments to keep them in
place. They need to know NOW what is happening as this is the time they

Waste 10s of billions on Net Stupid Zero but refuse to spend -u1Bn to
keep these schemes going. All that time and effort for nothing.

Certainly on the BBC news website at present. But this government
cannot take spending decisions before the budget and Rachel is still

All this angst over a terrier too - it is a dog and if you are single
and work full time then I am not sure you should have a dog
(particularly with apparently variable hours and at least 2 hours

I seem to remember lectures every morning and lab work or tutorials in
the afternoons - except Wednesday afternoon. I am not saying that all
of our time was fully occupied but certainly it was not possible to have
two days together and not be in the college for something.

Brad is of course studying maths so lab work would not be relevant, but
the main thing you have forgotten is that as a result of the late unpleasantness most lectures are recorded and made available online
leaving Brad free to catch up after his shift at GG. And tutorials can
be held on Teams or similar videoconferencing facilities.

You got there first, John, but my other point was going to be, do we
have any evidence that he is doing any study work at all? What if he's
using a mouse-jiggler (ooh-err missus) to pretend to be at on-line
lectures and is using an Indian Degree Farm to do all his written
