After using a trowel to lay on about the frailty of elderly
Ambridgians earlier in the week and pointedly -erme- pointing at Eddie
we are now being invited to think that Brian's last words tonight,
just before the band struck up with Barwick Green, perhaps could have
    been.. ...Brian's last words.

It's become bloomin' dangerous to live in Ambridge these days.

Nah. He still canrCOt let Adam take over, now JennyrCOs gone, herCOs nothing to
do - and clearly Miranda isnrCOt a farming person. But I still canrCOt see where StellarCOs going in all this.

It's been a funny old day today, hasn't it? While much of the
mainstream media have been banging on about the 70th anniversary of
the start of ITV, the people of Ambridge only seem to recall some
ex-resident whose chevaline barbeque went a little bit wrong that
night. I mean, who really remembers stuff like that seventy years
later? And why weren't they sat around their television sets like the
    rest of the country?

I thought it was nicely introduced - by coming across her gravestone.

(Has anyone ever met anyone called Ysanne? Must be a very rare name!
Hang on, let me see ... Hmm, FreeBMD.org.uk say _no_ births (1837 to almost-date) by that name. Her wikipedia entry says she was born in 1925
to Andrew Churchman and Gladys Dale; FreeBMD only shows one birth to
those two names, in the right quarter, Isabel A - oh yes, wiki says she
was born Isabel Ann. It doesn't say where the name Ysanne came from.)

On the other thing that happened 70 years ago yesterday: I was trying to
think when tobacco advertising was banned, and feel to my surprise that
it might be more than half of the 70 years ago. According to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regulation_of_nicotine_marketing, it was
1965-8-1 for cigarettes (earlier than I'd thought but that didn't stop
loose tobacco and cigars), all in 1990. So that's between 60 and 35
    years ago.

I'd been hoping maybe the anniversary (of ITV) could be used as a start
of a campaign against gambling advertising - for which I think much the
same arguments (on both sides!) would arise. But I see no evidence )-:.

Good grief, I hadn't realised that he who must be obeyed was born whilst the Ambridge
Stables were on fire! We've spent the whole week-end celebrating his 70th birthday with
nary a mention of the Archers, let alone Ablazing Grace!
