I don't think Jim Lloyd appeared in tonight's episode (not in the last
ten minutes that I heard, anyway) but, with all the musing on the
passage of time, one might be forgiven for muttering phrases like
Memento Mori, O Tempora O Mores. And who could possibly forget Eheu
    Fugaces Labuntur Anni?

Definitely a lot of reminiscence on the theme of old age - the
revelation that Eddie is 75 and now looks... well... old.

So my suspicious mind is asking: are we being softened up for the
tragic loss of a well-loved but elderly character? Will it be
budget-driven, in which case, which member of the cast is on the
highest salary? Or will it be driven by events? Has any cast member
just landed a huge Netflix, Apple or Spotify deal?

If it's storyline driven, I think we ought to be on the look out for
clues and as Eddie's frailty was heavily underlined tonight, watch out
for innocent-sounding lines such as: "This Turkey Knife which I have
here in my right hand is freshly sharpened - but don't worry, love,
I'll clean up that extremely slippery patch of spilled grease just as
soon as I've finished." Or: "Don't worry love, that loading platform
for the wood chipper will last a lifetime now: I've replaced all those
    missing bolts with baling twine."

From now on, whenever Eddie says "Don't worry, love," I'm going to pay
    special attention.

In financial terms given that the contracts are per episode I doubt that actual pay rates vary much between characters.

In terms of the doors of St Stephens we must be concerned at the
    continued existence of
    Aunty Chris (long unheard)
Jill Archer (very weak on last hearing)
Jim Lloyd (certainly far less robust on last hearing)
Harrison (his undercover work as a scaffolder and thoroughly nasty piece
    of work in Lancashire continues)
Shula (regrettable in my view when the writers f***** up the character)
Clarrie - to me she does not sound as strong as I would expect
    Robin Fairbrother

    How old is old Oliver?

    Anyone offering any odds?

    How old is old Oliver?

    Anyone offering any odds?

Funnily enough last night before reading this thread or hearing the epi
I was wondering about who could buy the BL shares from Justin and
thought about Oliver, and then went on to wonder if he was going to kark
it and bequeath the house the Grundys live in to the tenants,

Now I've listened to the Epi I think it's someone from DrownBKSPBKSPss

    <oops, premature emission>

So either Jazzer or Fallon in the water.

I donrCOt recall personal details of Oliver but he must be in his 70s/early 80s.

In financial terms given that the contracts are per episode I doubt

    How old is old Oliver?

I don't believe that we've ever been told Oliver's age.

Two years ago, Eddie mentioned that it was Oliver's birthday on the 25th >>> October, but no ages were mentioned. As far as we listeners are
concerned, I don't think he'd had a birthday before that.

If no other evidence comes to light, I guess we could assume he's of an
age with Caroline, as they appeared very much soulmates; how old (or
    when born) was she?>

I thought that, when they married, there was a marked age gap between
them (he much older than she).

    I remember that as well.

So do I, though they did seem to be very fond of each other.

So: anyone remember _what_ the gap was (and when Caroline was born, to
    give us a datum)?

Definitely a lot of reminiscence on the theme of old age - the

So my suspicious mind is asking: are we being softened up for the

ItrCOs time for the turkeys to be scrapped. We know Clarrie was too busy but

George will be there to take charge of it this year, as I believe had
    been the pln last year.

CanrCOt see Amber marrying a turkey keeper: bet she didnrCOt know about those
till now (if she does yet). She wants George for his computer skills to

Though after her talk with Brad the other day and the experience of haymaking she might be considering that she'd make a good farmer's wife
    and George a good farmer.

    TAE - Caroline Pemberton b 3.4.55
Oliver Sterling - no date given but he had recently divorced Jane and
had got together with Caroline and split up but by late 2001 things were looking brighter for them.

So in 2001 Caroline was 46 and Oliver was not looking to do more than
hobby farming which I always took to mean that he was possibly already
60 - but let us say between 50 and 55. Which would mean that he is now between 75 and 80.

Michael Cochrane is currently 78 which obviously is not an accurate
    guide to Oliver's age.

No. But given the way the beeb is keen to show photos of cast members
and to wheel them out on special occasions all to maintain the
illusions, it's reasonable to assume that Michael Cochrane is at least
in the same ballpark as Oliver. The problem with -say- Tony Archer was
that he was cast before people became used to seeing their radio
heroes rather than just listening to them. Tony Archer was a sprightly middle-aged farmer but poor old Colin Skipp was on his last gasp by
the time he handed over to David Troughton. BTW, I still think David
Troughton has been an excellent Tony Archer right from the off.
