Have the scriptwriters forgotten that Vince Casey was prevented from
playing for Ambridge CC because he didn't live in the village? If those
are the rules how could Rex play for Roswell-in-the-Vale? Unless the
vale Roswell is in has the Am running through it and Rex can move his narrowboat up there. Then again, perhaps they're used to importing aliens.

Talking of cricket, AIAOU in thinking that Lawrence in The Archers is
modelled on Maurice from the Charles Paris series? Different actors
but the same whiney, snidey type of voice, reeking of superiority and
with the same lack of moral compass. OAIAM?

Talking of cricket there is a letter in today's Guardian in which the
writer bemoans the choice to fly "Adam Zampa from Australia to deliver
20 balls in the Hundred final at LordrCOs" which he goes on to describe as "a ridiculous contribution to a major home tournament". AIAOU in
thinking that should read "an major contribution to a ridicuous home tournament"?

I might have agreed - if I had not been quite successful in ignoring the
very existance of all pajama cricket.

Or even, a contribution to a majorly ridiculous home tournament,
    perhaps?

I went completely off test cricket, many years ago after having been
on the edge of my seat (by the wireless set, not at the ground) for
the last, few, exhilarating balls of a knife-edge test series. I was
elated, excited, overjoyed by it all. Then I discovered, along with
the rest of us, that an Indian betting syndicate had known all along
what the result would be and my emotional crash was all the worse for
having come from such a high.

But I still liked village cricket - just a short walk from here - or
country cricket if I take the train to Leeds and I have just come back
to having confidence in test series in time to be thrilled by the last
day of England v India 2025. The other stuff doesn't interest me at
    all.

But it obviously interests others and now that pretty much all sport
is corporate, the games all go where the money goes and I hate it. At
least I can still watch Cowcliffe or Hall Bower when I want to - until
a dreadful Lawrence-a-like comes along to spoil that too.

Pronunciation amongst some cast members is not great at times. I assume
that budgets mean that the odd slurred word (amongst younger cast
members who work elsewhere and not on the wireless regularly) is
overlooked to ensure that the product is delivered without due care and attention.

That could be interpreted two ways! One way - which I _think_ is the one
Kosmo intended, because of the mention of budget concerns - is that they
allow this (lack of proper care and attention), to ensure that the
product is delivered (at all). The other interpretation is that they
want to be authentic: since (some) young people _do_ speak like that,
they want to _ensure_ it is delivered without care! (As in, "you said
that line more clearly than your character would have; have another go"!)--
