• Ethernet printing from Mac

Mac OS 15.5 connected to router using WiFi
Konica Minolta printer connected to router via Ethernet cable; IP
address bound in router so guaranteed to be consistent.

Mac prints one document, then shows printer is offline.

Mac can continuously ping the printer, and open its management page
using a browser, so connectivity is not an issue.

Mac and printer both rebooted. No better, printer still shown as offline.

Googled - suggests removing and re-installing driver. Can now print
several documents, and no complaints from user in following half hour.

    But why did this happen?

How can I ensure that this failure won't happen again?

Often such problems are the vagaries of mDNS, which is how AirPrint has autodetected the printer. Once the printer has been added, I tend to go
into the printer settings on the machine (via CUPS if necessary) and alter
it to the fixed IP address rather than long-printer-name.local which is the mDNS name and causes it to disappear if mDNS discovery isn't working
    correctly.
