Looks promising but I'll wait until it's out of alpha. It appears not to be notarized yet, hence the warning on trying to open the dmg. It can be self-built
    from source if you're keen!

Good to see. I listen to a lot of music from local files, mainly through BlueOS. A decent standalone app would be welcome too.

Back in the day I used Clementine which was perfectly functional and nice
to use. Still exists but probably won't work. Not updated since 2016. https://www.clementine-player.org/

    Oh ma darlinrCOrCa

IrCOm sure I gave that a try at some point in the past, though I didnrCOt realise you could add internet radio stations to it. I think someone has requested that functionality be incorporated in Petrichor too.

Apparently it is still being developed. Just not for macOS.

There's a fork called Strawberry which does a Mac build, but requires
    payment.

I've been using that on Macs for years and it works fine. It's also
free and sometimes updated to run new file formats and stuff.

It's also handy on non-Apple devices.

Yeah, I first used VLC on Win-boxes for many years before I got the
wife her first Mac. VLC was one of the first things I added to her
    MacBook.

Crossover was the next one so I could load her Windows games for her.
I copied my iTunes library of
ripped CDs onto a micro SD and put it in my Android phone, where I
    use VLC to play it.

I've tried to do that from my MacBook Pro to an iPad but nothing I do
works. AirPlay says there's a socket missing and file managers just
don't seem able to manage the transfers.

Apple's "Music" has a button for "Autofill" on the iPad but that
doesn't work, either. Not even when the MBP is "trusted" and connected
    via USB.

Late model Intel MBP on 15.4, ipad 5 on ios 18.

I'm sure I'm missing something easy but I'm too much of a mainframe
    guy to spot it. :)

Do those strange things do things VLC doesn't? Am I missing some
    great fun?

And can they do all that VLC can do,
like playing .flac files for example?
