• OT-ish: NewsTap on iOS 26

    From Alan B@alanrichardbarker@gmail.com.invalid to uk.comp.sys.mac on Fri Aug 8 07:22:22 2025

NewsTap 5.6.1 running on iOS 26 Public Beta 2 on my not so new iPhone 11
does not display X-Faces. Instead it displays an image not found icon.
Anyone else noticed this? Given IrCOm running a new beta O/S, thererCOs bound to be some incompatibilities. IrCOll contact Alexander Clauss in due course.

Incidentally I'm not seeing this problem with my iPad Mini 5 now
running iPadOS 26 public beta 2. I've exchanged emails with Alexander
and I'm coming to the conclusion there may be some other factor at
large on my iPhone 11. Restarts of that device have not put matters
    right sadly :(

Can't say I've ever seen X-Faces with NewsTap. Where would I see them?

Open NewsTap Settings -> General. Turn on Show X-Face and you should see
them in top left hand corner when viewing a post.

Ah, never mind. Had the toggle switched off, can see yours now. iOS 18.6
    tho.

While you have his ear, you might mention that the latest 5.6.1 version for iPad shows 5.6.1 in your headers when you post, but locally still shows
    version 5.4 12/30/2019 under ?, Support/Contact.

    Great!

Please note there is a known bug in iOS and iPadOS 26 beta - VPN
connections, e.g. via TunnelBear, donrCOt work with Require Passcode turned
on. You canrCOt turn off Req. Passcode without turning off Touch ID too it seems! So best to wait for the next beta if you want VPN access, when
according to a guy from Apple Support it MAY be fixed.

iPadOS 26 Dev. Beta 5 was released a short time ago and, yes, the VPN
access bug seems to have been fixed :)
