Shubin is 64 and now an associate dean at the University of Chicago, but
20 years ago he was looking for fossils and found Tiktaalik the fossil
with both fish and tetrapod characteristics in 375 million year old sediments.
Ron Okimoto
Shubin wrote three excellent books: "Your Inner Fish (2008)", "Some
Assembly Required (2020)" and "End of the Earth (2025)" The first
describes the search for Tiktaalik, the second more about genomics and
the third more discursive about his travels in extreme places. I
recommend them all.
