My thoughts on the Trump's recent antics.

    ...

Regardless of what one may think about reasons / grounds for
the Ukraine-related issues, one thing should seem to be clear
that if the U.S. manages to coerce non-Western world to stop
trading with Russia, it will be sort of triumph of the their
imperialism. It will strengthen American and general Western
arrogance and reinforce their habitual approach to utilize
the rest of the world for Western needs ("America first" and
the like). It is also clear that such a prospect is not much
attractive to non-Western nations. However, there are certain
groups in the non-Western countries whose well-being somehow
depends on connections with the U.S. and/or Europe, and many
of these interested parties aren't inclined to assess things
in the longer term. The recent threats to impose additional
tariffs due to the trade with Russia are aimed mainly at such
interesants. However, in the longer term the situation is so
that if the West has to retreat in the Russia-related case,
then they will have no choice but to reduce their level of
hubris towards the rest of the world. And for non-Western
manufacturers and traders it means they also will be feeling
more comfortable. So the choice is either to give in to the
Trump's demands and thus cement the Western dictate practice
or to call the Trump's bluff and endure certain temporary
inconveniences in exchange for saner situation in the future.
