Why?
Simple reason.
Democracy originally means People Rule. Western democracy reduces
"People Rule" to "People Vote" once every few year and People
Protest/Riot occasionally. What else, "People talk about politics" lots
of the time. This is also how all the show hosts and media commentators
make their livings.
See? Democracy in Western nations, especially the US, is about talking
about politics and listening such talks.
What do you suggest?
Should we use "electocracy" instead of "democracy"?
Implying no (significant+) difference between ancient Greek democracy
[in a city (a small state)], direct Swiss democracy and typical western parliamentary "electocracy" would be brave/stupid.
BTW Population of Swiss Confederation is 9 million.
IMHO It implies current upper limit on effective direct democracy.
