    Why?
    Simple reason.

Democracy originally means People Rule. Western democracy reduces
"People Rule" to "People Vote" once every few year and People
Protest/Riot occasionally. What else, "People talk about politics" lots
of the time. This is also how all the show hosts and media commentators
    make their livings.

See? Democracy in Western nations, especially the US, is about talking
about politics and listening such talks.

    What do you suggest?
Should we use "electocracy" instead of "democracy"?

Implying no (significant+) difference between ancient Greek democracy
[in a city (a small state)], direct Swiss democracy and typical western parliamentary "electocracy" would be brave/stupid.

BTW Population of Swiss Confederation is 9 million.
IMHO It implies current upper limit on effective direct democracy.

    1) Germane to the beginning post, Trump is doing what he should be doing
like other citizens. That is, talking about politics and listening other
    people talking about politics.

Besides ritualistic voting once every few years and occasional
protests/riots, most people are relegated to talk about politics and
listen other people talking about politics. Unfortunately, such by the
people and from the people are unlikely to effective change for the good
    of the people.

    2) Concerning your questions, the issue is not how the system is named.
It is what We The People could or could not do most of the time. And
whether the collective ability and capacity of the people are fully
tapped to make the country better for all.

If one looks into the future, the End of History system would be a
system in which people could rule with their full ability and capacity, collectively speaking.
