Can someone please tell me how a cut to food assistance would lower
prices?
It seems like some very sketchy logic.
Trump's magical realism.
After all, Trump did get a degree in Economics. He certainly knows
supply and demand. Reducing SNAP program by $230 billion over 8 years
means less demand on food. And consequently more food available. This
part of realism.
The Magic part is that at present total food consumption expenditure in
the US is about $1500 billion per year.

Reducing demand by $30 billion out of a total of $1500 billion is
unlikely to greatly impact food price.
A kind of mental laziness or magical thinking, not necessarily decline. Certainly not fascism.
