• Local derby for Canadian Championship final

Canada is so spread out that what get called local rivalries in sport (Edmonton-Calgary, Montreal-Toronto, Montreal-Ottawa, Montreal-Quebec
city in the past, or even Toronto-Hamilton) would not really qualify as derbies elsewhere. I guess there was a time when Toronto Blizzard
would play the North York ROckets in the old CSL.

All this changes with a Canadian Championship final between the
Vancouver Whitecaps and Vancouver FC this year. The Whitecaps, now
featuring Thomas M|+ller, are currently the best of the Canadian teams in
MLS, whereas Vancouver FC are Cellar Dwellers in the 8 team Canadian
Premier league, so in theory a mismatch. The draw favoured FC a fair
bit (Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver ended up in the same half of the bracket), with Montreal beating Toronto on pens in the first round, then losing to Forge (from Hamilton) in the QF. The Whitecaps had a bye in
the first round, and successively beat Valour (Winnipeg) and Forge in
the next two. Vancouver FC had wins on pens vs Pacific FC then Cavalry, followed by an aggregate win vs. Atletico (sic) Ottawa in the semifinal.

    Final is October 1

MLS is the USian Championship isn't it? Do Vancouver Whitecaps play in
the USA's League and the Canadian League then?

MLS is the USian Championship isn't it? Do Vancouver Whitecaps play in
the USA's League and the Canadian League then?

MLS is the North American championship. There are three Canadian teams
in it (Vancouver Whitecaps, Montreal FC, Toronto FC), and Toronto have actually won the league. All the other teams are based in the US.

This is not unique to North America, The A-league down under has two NZ
teams now (used to be just Wellington Phoenix). Monaco plays in the
French league. Vaduz in the Swiss league, and I believe Andorran and San Marinan teams play in the Spanish and Italian pyramids, respectively,
    though I could be wrong.

The there is Derry playing in the Irish league insteand of the N.
Ireland one. Berwick playing in the Scottish league system instead of English. Swansea, Wrexham and Cardiff all play in the English league
    system.

The Whitecaps don't play in the Canadian Premier league, only MLS. The Canadian CHampionship is a CUP competition and includes all MLS teams
based in Canada, all Canadian Premier league teams, and regional winners
of lower tiers. It is used primarly to allocate a place in the CONCACAF champions cup, though two teams from the CPL also now (since last year)
get to enter the CONCACAF thingy at an earlier stage.

Unsurprisingly the Whitecaps won this, 4-2, and even hit the post
multiple times. 2 goals from Canadian Ali Ahmed, a penalty from Thomas M|+ller, and a goal from Scot Ryan Gauld, who came on as a sub for his
first appearance since March (Knee-cap injury).

Curiously, this win makes M|+ller Germany's most decorated player of all
    time (35 titles in all)

You misspelled "Thomas Muller, the best FS pick of all time"
