Turkey Divine. It's my wife's favourite treatment for leftover turkey
and I can't complain because it is so darned tasty.

Nothing. Two slices of pizza (sausage and pepperoni) for late lunch
    and I'm still digesting.

I suppose I should drink some water.

Oops I guess it is Divan, but it is divine. If one where to write out
the entire recipe it would be quite involved, but she makes it with
leftover turkey or chicken. She makes a white sauce and adds some grated Parmesan and blanches some broccoli. The assembly involves white sauce
in the bottom of the pan, a layer of broccoli, a layer of sliced fowl,
repeat, sprinkle with buttered breadcrumbs and more Parmesan and bake
    until browned.

Only make as much as you figure can eat and don't count on leftovers.
The broccoli verges on overcooked the first time and reheating leftovers
with broccoli is pushing it IMO.

Slight correction... a little mustard powder goes into the white sauce.

Chicken kofta with tahini sauce, and saffron Basmati rice with toasted
orzo, which was a lot like Rice-a-Roni, but with better rice and saffron instead of the crappy seasoning packet. My wife made sweet potatoes for
her and her parents (I don't like sweet potatoes), and she made a lemon
cake with what seemed like double strawberry frosting. Freeze dried strawberries make great frosting. Freeze dried blueberries do as well. https://photos.app.goo.gl/hBVSQfqqDC1WqxN79

The kofta was a bit dry, but it was the first time I'd ever made it. I
think I just overcooked it. The tahini sauce was great. If I ever make
kofta again, it won't be with chicken. The saffron rice couldn't help
but be good, as it was just rice, a tiny bit of browned onion, butter,
    salt and saffron.

I don't eat broccoli at all, but leftover broccoli is beyond "pushing
it." To minimize it being "overcooked the first time," perhaps she could
use cold from the fridge broccoli instead of blanching it, with idea
that broccoli is better undercooked than overcooked.

Good idea. I love the turkey and sauce part. The broccoli can be temperamental. It can be really good. It was last night. However, there
is some leftover that I will be expected to eat for lunch and it is
going to be hard to do that without pushing the broccoli over the line.

If you're microwaving it to reheat it, don't use the HIGH setting. Cook
it longer at a lower setting so the broccoli doesn't cook to death but everything is heated through.

It amazes me how many people don't use the lower power settings on the microwave when reheating things.

I have to admit. I followed some of Bryan's

    started 'caramalizing' the painted interior,
I bought an expensive one with an inverter.
Also, twice both volume and microwave power.

Non inverter type microwave ovens (in ANY quantity).

The broccoli verges on overcooked the first time and reheating leftovers >>> with broccoli is pushing it IMO.

We avoid that by carefully nuking the broccoli and serving the
    casserole over it.

Agree! Anytime leftovers get reheated in the microwave here it's
at 60% power and perhaps 2 minutes longer than if I were using
    full power.

They are not that much cheaper. Since the patent expired over a year
ago, inverters are not expesive. https://patents.google.com/patent/US7064306B2/en
Back in August, this one was on sale for $99. I know because I advised
my s-i-l to buy it for my nephew who was going away to college for his
    dorm room. https://www.target.com/p/cuisinart-1-3-cu-ft-inverter-mirror-microwave/-/A-94468189

The cheapest (non-inverter) 1.1 cu ft unit I could find was $80 at WalMart. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Hamilton-Beach-1-1-Cu-ft-Countertop-Microwave-Oven-in-Black-Stainless-Steel/5119493325

If you were to use it a thousand times on reduced power, that cost would
be an additional 2 cents per use. There no doubt that I care more about
food quality than you, and I can easily afford those 2 cents, but I bet
    you could too.>>

Probably bought years ago. If you were to replace yours these days with
the obsolete tech, that would be knuckleheaded.

I reckon you don't even know what type of microwave you have.

Hank, Cindy is a technology nerd. If she had bought a microwave since
inverter tech came out, she would have known about inverters.>
    Non-inverter, I'm confident.

Like I told Hank, "Probably bought years ago. If you were to replace
yours these days with the obsolete tech, that would be knuckleheaded."
That's especially true since you are one of the most, if not the most, economically well off of persons who post here. You could buy a modern inverter and donate your old unit, and it would be a rounding error. Of course, you say that you only use your microwave sparingly. I use mine
every day. I microwave the milk for my wife's morning latte(s) to very
warm while the espresso is espressin', and then finish the milk with the steamer. That will be the very next thing I do after sending this post.>
Don't tell Bryan that Usenet is obsolete tech. It'll be our
    little secret.

It's not obsolete. It is just a rather archaic mode of social media. If
it were obsolete, it would have no advantages over the newer, more
popular platforms. I find text only with hyperlinks superior to
something like Facebook, and I think that most here do. The non-inverter microwaves have zero advantages (other than being slightly less
expensive) over the new tech, and therefore can properly be called,
    obsolete. Obsolete --> https://www.ebay.com/itm/205647434385

The cost difference is now minimal, as the patent expired in Aug of '24.
This one went on sale a couple of months ago for $99. https://www.target.com/p/cuisinart-1-3-cu-ft-inverter-mirror-microwave/-/A-94468189

Even the cheaper brands are making them. This is a 2.2 cu ft, 1200W one. https://www.bestbuy.com/product/insignia-2-2-cu-ft-countertop-microwave-with-sensor-cooking-and-inverter-technology-stainless-steel/J2FPJKSVCV/sku/6602627

We have the smaller version of this. https://www.lowes.com/pd/LG-2-0-cu-ft-NeoChef-Countertop-Microwave/5015315547
I imagine that within 5 years or so, only super cheapo models will use
    the old tech.
