• Hard to find Kangaroo meat and will get worse

    From Ed P@esp@snet.n to rec.food.cooking on Mon Oct 13 09:28:16 2025

You just can't find Kangaroo these days and it will become more difficult.

Actually, I never thought of it as a commercial product. Just an animal
in Australia and a few in zoos, but seems popular in a few places.

    https://www.yahoo.com/news/articles/officials-move-ban-controversial-meat-003000253.html

"Every year, between 1.1 million and 1.3 million kangaroos are killed in
an animal-unfriendly manner for the purpose of selling various
ingredients on the global market," it continued. "Flanders contributes disproportionately to animal suffering in Australia."

According to Agriland, despite the discontinuation of kangaroo meat
sales in chain supermarkets in Belgium, it remains available in pet food
    and at butchers' shops

I'm very sorry for the meat eaters and I apologise on behalf of the
    kangaroos.

Notice the article mentions kangaroo meat is still available for sale in Belgium, until next July. I've never seen or heard of anyone in the US selling kangaroo meat.

Some stores here have sections with bison,
    ostrich, pheasant, rabbit, kangaroos, &c.

    Most are from Canadian farms.

I see bison beef in the meat section every week; usually it's
just a hamburger grind, no roasts, or steaks. I do see frozen
duck but as yet to see any pheasant offered.

Rabbit is in the frozen meat section. And just this past
Friday I saw frog legs in the fresh seafood section. No
price was given though, but checking their website says
    $9.99 per pound.

Also on Friday I saw a large open meat case almost overflowing
with Butterball frozen turkeys. I immediately thought of
Cindy when they caught my attention. $1.29 per poound.

Make sure it's all not free-range. You don't want to spend more money

I never buy those turkey's as they are *HUGE*. Once in a great
while I'll buy a frozen turkey breast. They're about the size
of an American football and weigh in at 4-5 pounds which is more
    than enough for me.

I can find frozen rabbit; bison is not common. No pheasant or kangraroo
    meat.

You know me, I'd rather roast cornish game hens. But I won't be doing
that this year. I'm thinking pork tenderloin next month and standing
    rib roast in December.
