There was a theater company in town that would rent out costumes for >Halloween.

When I was a kid, it was the usual off the rack costumes in plastic bags

I guess youse also go to Trekkie conventions and wear elk antlers. To

You live in a gated community for older affluent

I don't live in a gated community. In the 25 years we've lived

Houses on this street are too far apart to make it worth their while.

Same here. I gave up giving out candy several years ago when some
14-year-old twit told me she didn't like what I was giving her.
There was a variety in the bowl, and she wanted to know if she could
paw through it and pick out what she wanted.

My neighborhood is dense, it's old so there's no excuse for mommy
to be driving their too old to be trick-or-treaters around, as well.
If you can't walk, you shouldn't be out trick-or-treating.

Let's not forget the kid that stuck his face in his bag after I gave
him about 4 fun size candy bars; not the little one-bite bars. He
thought I should have handed over another 5 or so.

He's not in it until almost the end. He's the jet pilot that
drops the napalm. You won't recognize him as he's got on a
    helmet and the oxygen mask.

He and Mara Corday were in acting school together and she's
the waitress in one of the "Dirty Harry" movies that gives

It was 42F here this morning and warmed all the way up to 54. My friend

It's about 1o degrees cooler than that here and over the next few weeks
it should be in the 60s. We need rain. We usually get lots of it in
September and October when we get the leftovers hurricanes in the US

I'd love it if my neighbors would quit burning stuff and filling
the stagnant air with acrid smoke.

Yesterday I was fantasizing about a helicopter dropping water
every time someone lights a pile of leaves. My husband suggested
that would be appropriate for a first offense. After that, a
    helicopter drop of Coleman fuel.

We're not supposed to, but people do anyway. One particularly
bold fellow does it in the ditch next to the road.

I think I'd have to call the fire department on them, and they've
got better things to do than improve my quality of life.

One thing to remember if you register a complaint against a neighbour is
that they may do the same to you. We had a crazy farmer neighbour who
lived to cause problems. He had several properties along our road and
one of them was next to us on the west. His main farm was four lots down
to the east and he had another one just to the west of that one. He
used to drive his tractor down the street to get to the property next to
me. His dog used to run down through the back of the other neighbour's
home. The neighbour to our east complained about the dog running loose,
not because it was a problem dog, just because he hated the farmer. It
was stupid because everyone's dogs ran loose, including theirs. The
farmer got a fine. The next day the farmer saw the neighbour's poodle
loose outside so he phoned in to complained. The two idiots both got fined.

It's about 1o degrees cooler than that here and over the next few weeks
it should be in the 60s.-a We need rain. We usually get lots of it in September and October when we get the leftovers hurricanes in the US south.-a I had to buy a lot of water last week and was hoping for enough rain to replenish the ground water and the cistern.

Do you use the cistern for all of your water? My father finally hooked
up to city water last year. The hook up fee was first available for a
few hundred dollars in the early 90's, plus labor costs. He held out,
but when he finally hooked in, the fee to tap into the city water line
went up to a few thousand dollars. He said he'll keep the cistern just
for the garden house outside. It's been very dry here, as well. I
haven't even cut the grass in a month.

I have a well and a cistern. I can rely on the well water most of the
year but it is a shallow well and of we don't get rain the water table
drops and the well goes dry do I have to switch over to the cistern.

It was wet early in the summer but from August on it has been dry and I
ended up having to switch over. Luckily the cistern was full to the top
and lasted a good long time. I did have to buy a load of water about
two weeks ago. Boy the price of a load of water has gone up a lot over
    the last few years.

The fee was $11,000 in 2001 when we hooked up. And it was about
another $10,000 to trench and directional drill under the road,
run copper and PVC from the outside of the house to the municipal
pipes, then hook up to the water and sewer. And decommission the
    septic tank.

An additional pittance was spent on copper pipe and PVC drain for
the indoors part of the job, but we did all that work ourselves.

It's been dry here, but we got a little rain last week and I mowed
    on Monday.
