The "dog days of summer" refers to the time of the year when the dog
star, Sirius, is brightest in the sky.

ancient Greeks and Romans who associated the hottest days of summer
with the star Sirius, the brightest star in the constellation Canis
    Major (the Great Dog)

They passed this year. Thu, Jul 3, 2025 rCo Mon, Aug 11, 2025

    Not because it counts seconds.
A second is called a second because it is the 2nd division of the hour
by 60 (pars minuta secunda), the 1st division being a minute (pars
    minuta prima).

Thanks! And to add to this tidbit of information is why if you
have Sirius satellite radio its' symbol is a little dog. Woof!

The Infiniti is capable of getting Sirius. It has a button for it. The
Acura probably is too, but I've never noticed. I have never paid for satellite radio. I haven't listened to commercial radio in this

But you have to pay to use it. Price/plan is negotiable. I just get

Some years ago I thought to drop it. Went to the store and put on my

paid for the next year of Sirius.

I occasionally take some long trips. My favorite stations are always

If you have a bunch of CDs of music you like you can rip them and copy
them to USB sticks. You can get about a 100 albums on one stick and the
drive is easy to navigate. I have a number of them in my car, each with
a different genre of music. I also have one with nothing but comedy
podcasts that I have downloaded. I can drive for hours and hours and
never run out of good music to play. I have recently started listening
to podcasts. It's kinda neat that I can listen to something with my Blue
Tooth ear protection while mowing the lawn and then hop into the car,
switch from Radio or USB to BlueTooth and the same program carries on
from where I left off even though I am using a different player.

We had satellite radio in a rental car in California. I was surprised

I'm not surprised at all Bryan that you don't have satellite radio
or cable TV as those are never to be found in the marked down bin.
NY Times, don't make me laugh, but bozo brain, 90% of what I watch
on TV is DVR'd and it's rare, rare indeed that I see commercials
as I zip past them like they're the plague. I have all the sugary
sweet, drippy channels like Hallmark and such blocked.

Doesn't your local PBS station offer 3 or 4 channels in addition
to their main broadcasting service? The one here does; one is
pretty much children's programming, one is used to repeat what
aired the day before that was shown in prime time, and the last
one is strictly cooking shows such as Steven Raichlen (you could
learn a *lot* from him), Milk Street TV, ATK, Cook's Country,
Kitchen Queens, New Orleans, and more. All are cooking shows.

But you have to pay to use it. Price/plan is negotiable. I just get
    music.

Yeah, I'm only in for the music as well.

Some years ago I thought to drop it. Went to the store and put on my favorite FM station. It was all commercials for the short trip. After shopping, it was 50% commercials on the way home. When I got home, I
paid for the next year of Sirius.

A few months ago I turned on the radio just to see what was
playing. I waited /several/ minutes until some music was
actually played. Switched that off rather quickly and either
listened to a CD or turned on the TV for Sirius.

I occasionally take some long trips. My favorite stations are always
on. No searching every 50 miles, not swapping CDs, etc.

I've had it for 15 years and also listen in the house at times.

That is one of the bonuses of satellite radio, you find a
station you like and you don't lose reception 50-75 miles
down the road and have to start searching again.

Do you listen to the bloomerburg channel?

We like to use the term "Orange Shit Stain"

It's more polite, and also much more accurate.

Thanks to the Orange Shit Stain it's currently impossible to send even
the smallest package from Australia or Europe to the US. He's not only
a moronic shit stain, but also an amateur.

There used to be a Bloomberg channel on DirecTV and there
might be one on Sling, but I don't remember bloomerburg.

bypass that nonsense. Five minutes of airtime and at least 3

It could be worse. We watch Newfie Jeopardy. It is the same show but due
to Newfoundland's peculiar time zone it is on an hour and a half earlier
than it is in our time zone. My SiL and her husband like to watch that
show and he knows everything so she will sometimes call to ask the
answer to the final question... or is that the question to the answer?

    /Wellllll/, the 5:00 news does repeat at 6:00 p.m. if you're
going to be difficult. National news is slipped in that 30
    minute time period.
