Found marked down pork steaks. I put them in to marinate in tart cherry juice, salt and extra hot red pepper, in preparation for grilling them
this afternoon/evening. Then I made breakfast. The potatoes were fried
in peanut oil that has had so much chicken fat rendered into it, that
it's probably nearly half and half. As usual, they were parboiled in
    salted water.

You never disappoint buffy. I bet you set your alarm clock to
be at store when the doors opened and full steam ahead to the
meat counter. How many people got an elbow in the eye or in
ribs as you muscled your way forward?

The alarm was set for a doctor appointment. On the way back, we stopped
at a small footprint Schnucks in the richest part of St. Louis (63124
ZIP Code). They always have good markdowns because most of the
customers have too much money to care about markdowns. There were 3
packages of pork steaks at 40% off. I bought the smallest. We also got
2 bags of 99 cent bagged fruit. One oranges and one lemons. Some
months ago I commented to the produce guy there about how that store has
the best fruit markdowns. He said there's one lady who buys the bags of apples to feed to her horses.

The oranges are enough to make a nice glass of fresh squeezed OJ for my
wife. We don't buy the bottled stuff. Sometimes they have blood
oranges, or grapefruits or other citrus, and I often make her mixed
    citrus juice.
This is a good deal, but I already own two. The one is still going after
30+ years, and the other is a backup I bought used. The only thing I've replaced is one juicer attachment, and that was after juicing thousands
of citrus fruits. I once juiced 77 limes to make a gallon of lime juice
for a large family camping trip to make margaritas. https://www.ebay.com/itm/316246700811

At this point in life, we don't really have to worry about money, and
I've never fought anyone over the bargain bin. It's kind of a game to
eat as well as we do for as little money as we can. I'm not cheap. I
buy Prime porterhouse steaks, but only when they're on sale for $18/#,
instead of $27. We eat great, but most meals are planned based on sale prices. I got 4 large ears of corn for $1 today as well. I'll be fire roasting some Hatch chilies, skinning them, then adding them to the cut
off the ears corn. The other side will be either a L&T salad, or just
tomatoes by themselves. They come from tomato plants that come back
every year from seed, so other than the cost of watering them, they are
    free.

Makes sense that you're competing with farm animals.

Your last photo, I make a variation of that when I'm really feeling
hungry. Usually with a mirepoix of bell peppers and onions in bacon
fat, mixed with the potatoes, tossed with the cooked eggs.

A donut shop in town sells the same dish topped with cheese (and rye
toast) for $7, I order that every once in a while when I'm at work or
feeling lazy. I'm too cheap to spend the extra $1.50 to add sausage.
