IMHO lever fronts do shift better than any cable model.

Seems to me that there'd be some sort of a disadvantage to reaching
down to that lever while cranking to complete the shift. It would've
been for me being a bit on the awkward side.

No experience of lever activated front MechrCOs all have been cable be that indexed or friction as the downtube shifter was.

Folks I know who have electronic do say itrCOs a better snapper feel, though again irCOm sure they are correct but IrCOm not convinced it would be worth the cost for me.

Long ago, I purchased a few boxes of bicycle junk parts. Included was
a Simplex shifter-derailleur. I think it was a clamp on mount, not
braze on. I didn't have a reason or time to try it. When I moved out
of the Pomona area, I gave it to someone who claimed they could use
it.

I don't claim his level in skili Eddy Merckx was once asked if he
missed many shifts and he replied, "I havent missed a shift since I
was 5 years old".

However, the front "suicide" derailleur is mounted on the seat tube in
the normal position of the front derailleur. To reach that requires a
longer arm and more time to perform complete the shift (while looking
down instead of ahead). I haven't tried it, but I suspect it might be
rather awkward and dangerous.
