A man that police believe started the Palisades fire in January has been arrested.

Apparently, the theory is that he set a smaller fire several days before
the Palisades fire started, the fire department put it out but then it
flared up again a few days late and became the fire that consumed
Pacific Palisades and killed a dozen people. I suppose that's why he's
not being charged with any murder counts (at least not yet): it's too
easy for him to say it was the fault of the fire department for not
making sure his smaller fire was out.
I can't even fault that argument. You'd think the LAFD would want to
make sure that the Jan 1 fire was 100% out before declaring victory. I'm
not a firefighter though and it may be completely unrealistic to ever be completely sure that a suppressed fire can't flare up again.
Perhaps murder charges will get added later as more evidence is found.
Maybe a new witness will emerge who saw the same psychopath go back and
start a new fire in the same place later in the week.
