The two leaders of the Freedom Convoy that attracted international
attention when it rolled into Ottawa during the Covid lockdowns had
their day in court a few months back and were convicted. Today, they
    finally had their sentencing.

The sentence was surprisingly light given that prosecutors wanted them
to serve 7 or 8 years for MISCHIEF, a crime that normally earns little
more than a wrist slap. It seems the feds are *still* mighty pissed that people dared to stand up to the government as they attempted to gain a
redress of their grievances. Fortunately, the judge was considerably
more lenient than the Crown this time around....

Well in fairness the convoy DID tie up traffic in the national capital
at all hours (including morning and evening rush hours) and were
honking their horns at all hours.

I was highly sympathetic to their cause but knew from the beginning
that given their extended where they were driving the locals crazy
    they should consider themselves lucky.

During the convoy my eldest daughter (who is a Carleton grad - which
Rhino knows but the rest of you probably don't is Ottawa's main
univeristy) was showing me where the main incidents were taking place
and having been there a couple of times as a tourist I could relate to
    local frustration.

I wasn't there but I read that the convoy leaders worked out a deal to
lay off the honking during normal sleeping hours very early on because
they rightly understood that they would not make friends with anyone if
they deprived them of their sleep.

I've also read that they ALWAYS kept one lane open on the roads they
occupied for emergency vehicles to get through. That is a far cry from
the pro-Hamas crowd during their frequent protests who block EVERY lane,
which literally endangers lives since ambulances, fire fighters, and
police can't get through and have to do potentially lengthy detours in
heavy traffic to get around them. I don't think ANY of the pro-Hamas
crowd have been arrested or even fined for blocking the roads and the
police protect them from counter-protesters. We seem to have the same
two-tier justice with regards to the pro-Hamas crowd as the UK: they get protected and everyone else faces criminal charges if they do the same
things as the pro-Hamas crowd does with impunity.

Yes, but leftist protesters routinely do the same thing and cause the same disruptions without nearly the blowback from the government.
