In this video, we're revisiting Columbia House and digging past
the "penny deal" to uncover the real reasons this industry giant
crumbled. It's a story of legal loopholes, aggressive tactics,
and the one enemy they simply couldn't defeat.

I've always heard that it was
because too many of us
learned we didn't actually
have to pay them.
I haven't watched much. I got
to my intended destination
and found it uninhabitable,
so I dragged my mother out
and into a hotel. I've been
letting her control the TV.
I did watch some of the UK
version of Ghosts. I enjoyed
it, though I think I prefer
the American version. I do
like Ghosts UK's Jemima, a
child ghost. She has added
good notes several times, and
I wonder why she wasn't
carried over to the American
version.
They carried the ghosts
(except Jemima) over as
types, but didn't carry over
their specifics. Lady Fanny
isn't much like Hetty.
I've already imprinted on the
American version, but the UK
version's good, too.

I hope this all gets better for you

Folks, don't neglect your aging parents. They may say everything's fine >because they genuinely don't know it isn't. Deterioration can be sudden.
You need eyes on the scene at least every year or so, no matter what
they're saying on the phone.

Do you mean "comdememned" or "unfurnished"?

The former. The kitchen floor had been absorbing water for months,
and it's unstable and dangerous to walk on. One toilet is broken;
the other is revolting and has to be filled with water by hand.
There are fruitflies, spiders, and mice in the walls. The smell
of mold, rot, and mouse poop is unbelievable. There are piles and
piles of books and clothes everywhere, with just some paths among
the piles. There are thick spiderwebs in every corner.
She's been living this way for God knows how many months, and
she didn't realize anything was horribly wrong. She thinks she
just got behind on her chores. Meanwhile, her neighbors were
wondering if she had any children they could contact, while her
idiot sister knew exactly where to find me and apparently couldn't
be bothered. I will have some words for her when I find time.
We're in a hotel now, and a renovator has viewed the property.
It can probably be salvaged, though it'll be expensive. He's
willing to rush dealing with the water leak (and I'm extremely
grateful), but fixing all that will take a while. I'll need
to find us some transitional housing while that happens.
I'm looking forward to getting back to vegging in front of--- Synchronet 3.21a-Linux NewsLink 1.2
a TV. :)

I'm sorry you had to deal with this and I'm sorry your aunt was
willfully neglecting your mother.
What did the contractor identify as the source of the water
infiltration?
Will you take your mother back home with you? Clearly she cannot live on
her own alone.
Eek! I thought you were moving with her to a new place.
After Dad
moved into assisted living but still had the house, he kept hiding
his soiled clothes and then forgetting about them, resulting in
flies within the house.

Well, see, I don't have one. My employment situation has
been dire for some time. I'm clawing my way up, but I
no longer own a home.
I'm trying to get a clearer picture of her finances, to
see what we can afford together.
