Sounds awful and as usual has almost nothing to do with the original.
Simply yet another gabrage "reimagining" from the lazy, talentless
fools infesting Hollyweird. Just use a different name and stop trying
to link new, very different ideas, with old products! :-(
Wizard of Oz TV Show Announced With a Twist
-------------------------------------------
Prime Video is officially adapting L. Frank Baum's classic
children's novel, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz into a TV show.
Titled Dorothy, the project will be different from previous
adaptations as the creative team intends to put a modern
twist on the iconic and timeless story.
The Wizard of Oz TV show is described as a "contemporary,
music-infused YA retelling" of Dorothy Gale's unexpected
adventure into the magical world of Oz. It is expected to
use the Yellow Brick Road as a metaphor for the challenges
and choices facing young adults today.
Who's involved in the Wizard of Oz TV show?
According to Deadline, Dorothy will be created and produced
by 13 Going on 30 producer Gina Matthews through her Little
Engine label. The project will also be executive-produced by
award-winning singers Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton, along
with Lucky Horseshow's Lee Metzger, Little Engine's Grant
Scharbo, and Patrick Moran. Further details about its
potential cast are still under wraps.
"I've been in love with The Wizard of Oz books since I was a
child," Matthews said in a statement. "The story reminds us
of the qualities we need to get through hard times, and
Dorothy is a symbol of strength who shows us that with a
little kindness - and a lot of grit - we can not only
achieve great things but also lift up those around us. I'm
excited to bring that message to the world, now more than
ever."
Stefani commented, "It's a creative and modern take on a
classic, and being part of something that blends music,
emotion, and the character of Dorothy is inspiring to me."
"We're really excited about all the possibilities this show
brings, and I'm so grateful that Gina shared the idea with me
and Lee," Shelton added. "I knew right away it was something
Gwen would connect with. Her creativity and perspective are
such a natural fit for this project."
This Wizard of Oz TV show comes after the critical and
commercial success of Universal Pictures' Wicked movie, which
was led by Academy Award nominees Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba and
Ariana Grande as Glinda. Since its theatrical debut in 2024,
the movie has maintained its Certified Fresh score of 88% on
Rotten Tomatoes. Later this year, Erivo and Grande will return
to the Land of Oz in the upcoming sequel Wicked: For Good,
which will arrive in theaters on November 21.
