"Texas oil giants plot enormous Gulf oil well surpassing 40,000 feet"

More of a press release than an article.
The last company that drilled that deep went bankrupt.
Historically, only 20% of wells in the region are
successful.
Not sure what the late Burt Reynolds has to do with
oil well drilling.
OBSF: Stanton's _Hidden World_.
"The depth of the so-called "Bandit" rig would break a record."
Uh, have they not read rCLJourney To The Centre Of The EarthrCY by Jules >Verne ? Or rCLAt The Earth's CorerCY by Edgar Rice Burroughs ?
I'm sure that they understand that the pressure at those depths are
far greater than could be survived by any human, so they completely
disregarded 100+ year old fiction when making their go no-go determination.
