I don't have my copy to hand, but wasn't there a mention of a gay
    marriage very early on?

I thought it was the first mention of a gay marriage, as an
unexceptional occurrence that i had ever read.

Arthur C. Clarke may have written one earlier,
because, you know. But I don't recall a wedding,
    if you mean the wedding.

Apparently the same publication year as
    _The Cool War_ - 1981 - I think Vonda N. McIntyre
included polyamorous marriage in Star Trek novel <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Entropy_Effect>
though I think only one member of the marriage
appears. But I suppose that a certain kind of
fan fiction had been marrying Kirk to Spock
    for years... or not:
    <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kirk/Spock>
mentions marriage only once, re Spock's on-screen
anullment. "Proper" novels _The Price of the
Phoenix_ and _The Fate of the Phoenix_ took
the affection between Kirk and Spock farther
than most stories that aren't only about that.

Well, by that standard, wouldn't Mannie's marriage in TMIAHM from 1966 qualify? He wasn't the only guy in it I don't think.
