"Midnight Blue Light Special" by Seanan McGuire is another
InCryptid novel.
In this one we meet Valerie Price, ball room dancer extraordinary and
prone to moving by roof tops and from one high place to another on her
own power. She has been allowed by her family to enjoy a year at least
in NYC to contend in Ballroom Dance competitions but to survive is working
at the "Freak Show" a club that used cryptid performers to draw in audiences.
Even she thinks of herself as an emulator of Batman.
She has fallen in lust and maybe love with Domenic a member of the
Covenant of St.George whom she is not completely sure of and he
at the beginning of this story informs her that the Covenant is sending
agents to see if his reports are accurate. Valerie is accompanied
to the
Big Apple by Sarah an adopted cousin who is a Cuckoo an cryptid species
which is telepathic with extraordinary camouflage abilities who is attending
advanced mathematics classes. We learn a lot about the cryptids in
this
story with a bad one from the Phillipines, a were wolverine from the
far North, dragons and some others.

Now one of the fault I have with this series is the repetition of
the origins of the Price/Healy family and the murderous nastiness
of the Covenant of St.George.
This is a DAW paperback book copyright 2013 and sold for $7.00.
I found my copy at the SFPL-Main but if you look online who may
find it at a variety of prices. Some quite high.
