"An Angel Called Peterbilt" is a novel by Eric Flint
collaboration by Gorg Huff and Paula Goodlett
This is not a part of the epic of the Ring of Fire but starts in the
same universe where such things happen and are being researched as
"Time Bolides". This happens in the Mid-West to a trucking couple
and their daughter and to a chemist and her two children who happen
to have stopped for snacks at the roadside general store.
The modern folks are with a couple vehicles hurled back in time
1000 years during the time of the Mound Building Culture along
the Mother of Waters.
They encounter the Original Occupants who finding that the
6 are friendly are eager to learn. However we have the Mound
Building culture presently being dominated by a priesthood which
demands human sacrifice.
Remember the researchers in the present day of that spacetime
continuum. The truck happens to have been provided with a instrument.
And the Father of the chemist's two children wants to get them back
or join them.
This is a good story with the conflict set up and the Original
Occupants determined to unite the clans across the continent to
resist the European invasion when it may happen. They have
definitely been given a leg up by the People of the Peterbilt.
If you liked a Connecticut Yankee in the Court of King Arthur
you will find the story enjoyable I believe. 300 pages.
It is a Baen Books Original copyright 2024. $28.00 US
