A friend recommended the series to me last month, and I've been
devouring them at the rate of about one a week since then (being
    semi-retired does have its advantages).

Finished the 10th, "False Value" last night, and about to start the
short story collection "Tales from the Folly". I enjoyed FV
particularly since Peter's investigations take him with a quarter mile
of my house and the police station next door to where I work.

Somehow I had missed this novel earlier.
-a-a-a It tell us everything we might want to know about Peter Grant (apprentice wizard and Police Constable) and-a Thomas Nightengale,
his teacher and survivor of-a the terribly wizardly battles of WW II
which-a killed over 2000 of his fellows. While he has been-a growing
younger he has taken an apprentice-a which leaves me with the
questions of why and or how-a did Peter Grant come to his attention.
I did-a read the precursor to this story-a some time-a back when their associate Leslie a PC female-a was mutilated by the Faceless Man,
-aa rogue-a wizard who threatens them all and who has-a the power
-ato create chimeras like Cat Girls-a and Tiger Men.-a While the
-aFaceless Wizard is-a a problems we have also the Pale Lady who
-aseems-a to have the Vagina Dentata and Jazz Vampires
    -asurviving from the 1930s.
-a-a-a-a I did have to unwillingly put the book down-a from time to time
-a to attend to other matters plus-a in this edition the typeface is small
-a and the book-a is getting along in years and harder to read.
-a-a-a-a Now Thomas Nightengale is one of my favorite wizards and Peter
    -aGrant is a great apprentice.

-aNow as I mention above this is from 2011 so I wondered if this
-awas still available and it is!

So I will just finish by saying that this is a very enjoyable SF book
part of a series of very enjoyable SF books featuring the same lead characters and many others.-a It make me wish for more room for books
and more money to spend on them.-a Oh yes I found this copy at the
San Francisco Public Library Main branch.

    -a-a-a-a-a-a-a bliss

The Rivers of London series is very enjoyable, particularly if you like
    a bit of Architecture-porn. :-)

The later books and graphic novels move a bit away from Peter Grant, but they're still bloody good!

    Cheers,
    Gary B-)
