The UN is a joke and few pay any attention to it's grandiose
named offices or organizations.
Sadly that is the truth.
It's nothing more than a cocktail circuit for the elite to pretend they actually matter.
I wish NYC would refuse to support it so it can be moved because every time they have any type of meeting traffic turns to crap.
What a total, corrupt waste the UN has become.

It's not to say the UN has always done the bidding of the U.S., but mostly it
has, and biggest benefit to the U.S. is that it has largely kept other countries
in line. It isn't perfect, but it works in America's interest most of the time,
and pretty close to always on all the big things. Far right-wingnut rabid foaming about the UN is utterly misguided.

That is wrong. They had places. the forces that propelled that war
could not have been diplomatically resolved.

That is also wrong and we came very close to a shooting was and with
ICBMs. It was dumb luck that saved us and a the good conscious of a

No, and that's WHY the UN has no teeth. No country is willing to do >>>>>> that.
But countries such as yours must find the UN useful for *some*thing, >>>>> otherwise why do they stay a member? Why not just leave?
The UN is a U.S. creation that has served the interests of the U.S. extremely
well for 80 years.
Thank you for pointing that out.
It's not to say the UN has always done the bidding of the U.S., but mostly it
has, and biggest benefit to the U.S. is that it has largely kept other countries
in line. It isn't perfect, but it works in America's interest most of the time,
and pretty close to always on all the big things. Far right-wingnut rabid >> foaming about the UN is utterly misguided.
This is not your grandfathers UN and it's rabid antisemetism and danger
is real. Rightwing ciritism of the UN is spot on. The UN is a danger
to Humanity.
Credit to that ship's captain for not starting the shooting. Credit
also goes to Kennedy who agreed in back channels to remove US/NATO
missiles recently installed in Turkey. The Soviet missiles in Cuba
were a reaction to those US missiles.
Iow, the Soviets were not aggressing, they were reacting.
Iow, the primary international forum for European discussion was dead
by the time the Archduke was shot.
The Cuban missile crisis was just as stupid but at least we had a place
to let ambassadors rant until they exhausted themselves.
The FACT of the CMC is, that Soviet missiles in Cuba were a direct
response to NATO missiles in Turkey. Once JFK agreed to removing the missiles in Turkey, the USSR removed its missiles from Cuba.
This was all very back channel stuff and history barely remembers it.

And in return, the US gets to control who is allowed into the
country to attend UN meetings.
But how often is anyone barred?

So called world leaders need a teensy bit of perspective.
Today we are not sure if any nuclear weapons work.

And Wilson to craft a replacement

I disagree. We are quite sure quite a lot of them work.

They did work. The guys who made them have retired. People making
weapons now have never tested them. US weapons use tritium. That has to
be replaced every few years. None of replacements have been tested. >Replacing tritium is expensive; it has been speculated Russia cannot pay
for it so all their weapons are now duds.
And this time since last testing will only go on getting longer. We
cannot know if a screw has ever been misplaced.
We only know Russia has not tried one successfully which would be
detected. If they tried and it was a dud, would they tell us?
So we go forward with these things nobody would be stupid enough to use,
not sure if they can be used, but not sure they are inert.
It sounds like peace might break out.
