Trump is certainly smarter about wind turbines than NZers are. Here
is his commentary about windmills while announcing the new trade rules
with EU, with Ursula von der Leyen (EU Prezzy) alongside. Key point:
"You need subsidy for wind, and energy should not need subsidy. With
energy, you make money, you donAt lose money."
Trump speaks:
"And the other thing I say to Europe, we will not allow a windmill to
be built in the United States. TheyAre killing us. TheyAre killing
the beauty of our scenery, our valleys, our beautiful plains. And IAm
not talking about airplanes. IAm talking about beautiful plains, the
beautiful areas in the United States. And you look up and you see
windmills all over the place. ItAs a horrible thing. ItAs the most
expensive form of energy. ItAs no good.
"TheyAre made in China, almost all of them. When they start to rust
and rot in eight years, you canAt really turn them off. You canAt
bury them. They wonAt let you bury the propellers, you know, the
props, because theyAre a certain type of fiber that doesnAt go well
with the land. ThatAs what they say. The environmentalists say you
canAt bury them because the fiber doesnAt go well with the land. In
other words, if you bury it, it will harm our soil.
"The whole thing is a con job. ItAs very expensive. And in all
fairness, Germany tried it and, wind doesnAt work. You need subsidy
for wind, and energy should not need subsidy. With energy, you make
money, you donAt lose money.
"But more important than that is it ruins the landscape. It kills the
birds. TheyAre noisy. You know, you have a certain place in the
Massachusetts area that over the last 20 years had one or two whales
wash ashore and over the last short period of time they had 18, okay,
because itAs driving them loco, itAs driving them crazy. Now,
windmills will not come, itAs not going to happen in the United
States, and itAs a very expensive ...
"I would love to see, I mean, today IAm playing the best course I
think in the world, Turnberry, even though I own it, itAs probably the
best course in the world, right? And I look over the horizon and I
see nine windmills. ItAs like right at the end of the 18. I said,
"Isn't that a shame? What a shame." You have the same thing all over,
all over Europe in particular. You have windmills all over the place.
"Some of the countries prohibit it. But, people ought to know that
these windmills are very destructive. TheyAre environmentally
unsound. Just the exact opposite. Because the environmentalists,
theyAre not really environmentalists, theyAre political hacks. These
are people that, they almost want to harm the country. But you look
at these beautiful landscapes all over all, over the the world. Many
countries have gotten smart. They will not allow it. They will not.
It's the worst form of energy, the most expensive form of energy.
But, windmills should not be allowed. Okay?"

So China is manking no money for the sale of solar cells to the USA?
The susidy should not exist for all this "Net Zero", for it is the taxpayer, many of them not rich, who pays for this.
Another point is that subsidies are making some rich, apart from the
Chinese. While making the poor poorer.
Still to date the majority have voted in the Governments they want. UK and Australia, among others.
