    And thank you for that!

Are there many of the old time slrn users left here? And if so what are
your future plans on Usenet and NSR?

Yep. Still using slrn, still only have linux as an OS. Usenet is
mostly dead, but I check it every once in a while. Previous ISP
dropped it a long time ago, switched to paid Newsguy, then e-s years
ago when I realised I never came quote to using all the bandwidth and
    didn't care for binaries.

I'm an old guy, sure, a long-time Usenet user, and ages ago a news admin, but have been using slrn for only a couple of years.

Slackware distributions come with multiple newsreaders preinstalled. slrn was the one that checked all my boxes:

    - NNTP authentication
    - can kill articles by Injection-Info header
    - actively maintained

    Cheers
    Edward

I like it's ui and slrnpull.

Ditto, it's a bit like Emacs, but far faster than GNUs.

I'm unsure why you're just letting it all go. Free providers are there,
cheap providers exist if you need binaries. But that's a you decision.

Well, while not especially active, I first used slrn when I installed
installed it on a VMS back in 1994. Have been using it, off and on, ever
since -- mainly because to me, slrn _is_ news.

I have my own INN2 server now, with a small number of (mostly) active
groups coming in from the outside, and while I read a lot, I don't
always participate in the way that I used to. I'll keep it running as
    long as I can, though.

I check in from time to time with slrn (linux). Started out on pine on SunOS/Solaris. Then went to tin for a while, thence to slrn.

I am a bit sad that web forums took over the role that usenet used to play.

Yes, people prefer pop up ads over free discussions. Although a flaw
in the original Usenet was to allow crossposting.
