I was prepared to hate the new iphones given the fugly design, but it does
seem to have some sense. Basically the "phone" is all in the bump and the
rest is just screen and battery. It'll be interesting to see what effect on actual battery sizes is; the Air has a surprisingly longer lifetime than
    the 16.

The 17 or next year's 17e might be what I upgrade to in 12-18 months.

However, it's disappointing to see the Apple tax of former years returning.
Why are the prices the same in -u:$:re4 when the cost is hugely different?

    $799 = -u590 = re4682

The difference is partly due to sales tax and VAT. Adding average US sales
tax (7.52%) make an iphone 17 about $860, however, it still makes a UK
phone -u164 (26%) more expensive than in the US. In the Eurozone it's only
    9% more expensive.

Might have to get my next phone in France.

What you say is true, but it is a sad testament to the fact that people
are obsessed with themselves so much that they constantly take selfie
pictures. All this has been perpetuated by the iPhone. People didn't
walk around taking pictures of themselves constantly even when small
digital cameras were around. The self-absorption of society and inconsideration for others is ridiculous.

They are kind of ugly with the bigger bump, but stick a case

I do like the blue version of the 17 Pro. If I was getting

Can I justify the upgrade this year from my 15 Pro? Probably not.

It'll be interesting to see what effect on actual battery sizes is; the Air has a surprisingly longer lifetime than

Almost nobody sensible believes Apple's lies about battery life, Chris.
Apple lists up to 27 hours of video playback for the iPhone Air vs 22 hours for the iPhone 16.

I previously posted that the iPhone Air will have a 3,149mAh battery, per leaked specs while an iPhone 16 is known to have a bigger 3,561mAh battery.

Any sensibly logical well educated person might find the claims, um, er,
shall we say a bit "fishy", given that basic fact about the capacity.

Knowing full well that Apple never tells the truth, even in court, we have
to look elsewhere to find what the real battery lifetime actually is.

*What's the Real Difference Between the iPhone Air and iPhone 16?*
    <https://gizmodo.com/difference-between-apple-iphone-air-and-iphone-16-2000656101>

BTW, given Apple fabricated their "efficiency" claims for years, it will be interesting to see if the new iPhones also suck at efficiency in the EU benchmarks, especially given this verbatim quote from the artice cited
above "Apple emphasized all the extra work it did to maximize battery efficiency."

The difference is partly due to sales tax and VAT. Adding average US sales tax (7.52%) make an iphone 17 about $860, however, it still makes a UK
phone oG164 (26%) more expensive than in the US. In the Eurozone it's only
    9% more expensive.

In the USA, there are 6 states without sales tax. Not many. But some.
Alaska iV No state sales tax (some local municipalities charge tax)
Delaware iV No state or local sales tax; gross receipts tax on businesses
Montana iV No sales tax, some tourist towns charge local taxes.
New Hampshire iV No sales tax, but has taxes on meals, rentals & cigs.
Oregon iV No state or local sales tax (some local item-specific taxes)

I guess it's time to bone up and do our homework on what Apple's god.

Since no iPhone can compare in functionality to even a $30 Android, the
only sensible comparison is between the Apple iPhones themselves.

Which this article tries to do:
*All of the iPhone 17 models compared*
    <https://techcrunch.com/2025/09/12/all-of-the-iphone-17-models-compared/>

    | Model | Display | Processor | Rear Camera | Battery | Resolution | Weight | Price |
    |----------------|-------------|-------------|-------------------------------------|----------|--------------------|---------|--------|
    | iPhone 17 | 6.3" XDR | A19 | 48MP Main + 48MP Ultra Wide | 3,692 mAh| 2622x1206 (460 ppi)| 177g | $799 |
    | iPhone 17 Air | 6.5" XDR | A19 Pro | 48MP Main | 3,149 mAh| 2736x1260 (460 ppi)| 165g | $999 |
    | iPhone 17 Pro | 6.3" XDR | A19 Pro | 48MP Main + Ultra Wide + Telephoto | 4,262 mAh| 2622x1206 (460 ppi)| 206g | $1,099 |
    | iPhone 17 Pro Max| 6.9" XDR | A19 Pro | 48MP Main + Ultra Wide + Telephoto | 5,088 mAh| 2868x1320 (460 ppi)| 233g | $1,199 |

Notice that Apple, for the first time in its history, put a 5AH battery
into the iPhone, which equals that of my free el-cheapo 2021 Samsung.

I had predicted way back in 2021 that it would be years before Apple put a decent battery in the iPhone, and it was years - but it finally happened.

I also said years ago that Apple's efficiency was a lie, which it was.

And I said earlier this year when we found out Apple iPhones sucked at efficiency that Apple would sure as hell do something about that.

    And they did!
All the iPhones released this week earned an A in efficiency for once.

It was only after a shit ton of effort on Apple's part to do that though.
*What's the Real Difference Between the iPhone Air and iPhone 16?*
    <https://gizmodo.com/difference-between-apple-iphone-air-and-iphone-16-2000656101>
"Apple emphasized all the extra work it did
    to maximize battery efficiency."

Even Apple knows they can't fuck up the iPhone forever before people notice (where it's funny that the Apple trolls never notice anything important).

    This is all good.
    a. Apple finally made the latest iPhones efficient
    b. And Apple finally put a decent battery in one of them.

At this point, instead of me saying that no iPhone ever sold has anything
other than a piece-of-shit battery, I can finally claim there is one that doesn't.

And that's a step in the right direction for Apple.
Kudos to Apple for selling one iPhone that does not have a crappy battery!
