When you think of the dark web, you might think of hackers, the
Silk Road, and other illegal services that operate covertly and
mysteriously. However, the essence of the dark web for anonymous communication is useful for more than just illicit behavior.
The technologies that surround the dark web are used by
journalists, people who need access to censored news sites, the
U.S. military, and even people who just want to avoid annoying
targeted ads. It may also surprise you that the infrastructure

I've always wondered why the media seem to like to vilify things like
Tor. I guess it gets more views if they try to spin it into some dark
evil network, when in reality 99% of traffic on it is pretty
innocuous.
It's not so much villification, rather associating it with fear. Fear attracts and sells to the ill-informed.
