Microsoft Recall snapshots is off, by default, when you set up a new
Windows PC with Copilot. You have to explicitly turn it on, in settings,
if you want to use it.

The author of the video you referenced is clueless.

BTW, if you want a secure Linux machine, you can learn about how to
increase security, and which distros are most secure, at <https://madaidans-insecurities.github.io/guides/linux-hardening.html> .
Mint isn't a distro to use if you're genuinely concerned about security.

The video is spot on, David is a cybersecurity professional! I would
take his advice any day before yours.

Apart from that there is a lot of other stuff going on in windows

    Unlikely.

Or he's just clueless about Microsoft Recall, but decided to make a
    video about it anyway.

Recall is an optional feature that you have to opt into if you want to
use it. I don't even recall it popping up as an option during setup, you
have to go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Recall & snapshots to turn
it on, and it requires biometric authorization to use it (facial
recognition or fingerprint), not just a password or PIN.

Ironically, out-of-the-box, OS-X and Windows are significantly more
secure than most Linux distros. You can take steps to make Linux more
secure, often called "hardened Linux," by starting with one of the more
    secure secure distros, see <https://linuxsecurity.com/features/explore-the-top-secure-linux-distros-for-privacy-security-in-2025>.

What's the percentage of Linux desktop users?

Last I heard it was only about 7% and the reason for that being is the
other 93% have pea sized brains and are brain dead and also trust "BIG
    BROTHER" to look after them.

Honestly, if you're a windows user then Linux Mint is for you. Simple
like windows with only an hour or two learning curve!

Since you have to explicitly enable Recall, just don't opt in.

Also, if you do install Linux, because you want a more secure system, do
    not use the Mint distro.

"Linux Mint provides fewer updates, offering a solid foundation and a
careful approach, which may appeal to users seeking a stable
environment. However, this approach may not always include the latest
    security updates."

You can certainly build a very secure Linux system, but you can't do it
    with Mint.
