I have just got a tablet running Android 15.
It has a row of app icons across the bottom of the screen that don't
have the app name below them and can't be removed.
If I drag one up then the 'Remove' isn't there, it has 'Cancel'
instead and dragging the app icon to it does nothing.
How can I get rid of them? Several also appear as 'normal' icons with
text under that can be removed.

The bottom row of icons is called the favourites bar (they are common
across multiple home pages if you scroll left/right)
You can add/remove icons from the favourites bar, but you won't get the space back for anything else, I keep common icons like dialler/sms/firefox/thunderbird/camera there.

I'm on a Pixel with android16 (and the QPR1 UI refresh), if I do a long-press, then drag an icpn from the bottom row, I do get the remove 'pill' at the top, if there is a copy of the favourite icon on the home screen *then*/ I get cancel pill instead of remove pill.

As above, I think those several which also exist as normal icons will trigger the cancel, not the remove? I'm not sure what the logic is
there ...
