  • GlobalFoundries Acquires MIPS

    From Lawrence D'Oliveiro@ldo@nz.invalid to comp.misc on Tue Jul 8 23:33:07 2025
    From Newsgroup: comp.misc

MIPS is the name of the company that inherited whatrCOs left of the
pioneering MIPS RISC architecture from the 1980s and 1990s. Nowadays
they have gone all-in on the RISC-V bandwagon. Though ChinarCOs
homegrown Loongson/LoongArch machines are, I believe, based on a
variant of the original MIPS architecture. Also I think there are
still actual MIPS chips still being made for some embeddded purposes,
    like wireless routers.
