• OT: solar rebates.. bit of a rant...

well, after a lot of procrastinating, phone calls (in and out), AGL
cutting the feed-in tariff from 3.3 cents to 1.1 cents per Kw, we bit
    the bullet.

Some of the people flogging the govt rebates are astonishing! So many "newbies".. reminds me of the Govts free insulation scheme... I reckon
    i've heard from 6-7 companies,(Solaplus,Solapuke,Solabloodyfuckyou,
whatever) all paki/indian taxi drivers/phone droids, and most, if not
all dont know what chemistry the Powerwall 3 uses, or cant/wont supply
one. One teapicker spent 2-3 mins arguing with me.. i had to hang up.
Others I simply could not understand what the fuck they were babbling
    about..

Finally went with a localish elec co. They were happy to come out, take
a look, and lay out the options. Were straight up with the delay or the powerwall extender.. suggested 2-3 weeks but could be more)

    We're getting:
    a Powerwall 3 battery, (13.5Kw)
    a Powerwall extender. (13.5Kw)
    a gateway 2
an Aus made 270l elec Heat Pump HWS to replace the aging gas unit
and another 4.5 Kw of panels for a total of 15kw. which will help with charging in winter. It will allow me to put another 5Kw of panels (north facing ones) on the new shed?, later on down the track for a max total
    of 20Kw panels..
And Installation, plumbers and electricians, removal of old hws,
switchboard mods, certificates, inspections.. the lot.

The govts are tipping in $11000. I no complain. Bout time i got some tax
back. Even if i don't see it in my hand.

So a cost to us of $26,000. Beat 'em down from $28K. Our annual bills
for energy without the existing panels on the roof would be around
$3000-$4000 per annum (and will increase with more fish tanks! and son
buying a hybrid) so maybe take a while to recoup some redies.

A direct reaction to AGL butt-fucking their elec and gas customers due
to Dan Andrews and Jacinta Allen's decision to nearly ban Gas usage in Victoria. AGL simply puts their elec bills up 10%) to counter the
customers walking from gas. After this summer, we'll be carefully
watching usage and costs of the elec setup, and if feasible, we'll ditch
the gas ducted heating, and go elec reverse cycle ducted heating, and be
all elec, using as much as we can of our own power.

I doubt I'll ever see a return on my money, but my kids will. Besides,
the SKI fund is paying for it. (Spend Kids Inheritance)

Get the Govt rebates whilst you can. There was a whisper that Airbus
ALbo will can the Feds handouts before the end of the year. Apparently,
it's VERY popular.. (supposedly 200,000 applications for batterys
already) I thought it was unlimited, but some english speaking seller
    said otherwise.:-D

    (1) Did anyone get a 10% pay rise this year? I wonder why they are
allowed to triple the cpi... thieving dogs...

Nice. I've been thinking about it more and more, and the more I do the

I usually change power companies every year, playing them off against
each other whenever someone is offering a "honeymoon" deal for 12
months. I mean, power is power and it's not like buying it from these
guys is giving you a different product if you were buying it from those
    guys, right?

Sumo, my last supplier, sent me a lovely email a couple of weeks ago
telling me that my rates would change, with the daily supply charge
moving from 88 cents to $2.40, my kW cost going from 25.4 to 56 (I'm on
single rate) and my feed in tariff dropping from 4.4cpkw to zero.

I thanked them very much and moved straight to another company where I'm
now paying just under a buck a day for supply, 23cpkw for power and an unlimited feed in tariff of 3.3 cents. 12 months from now that will
change again, and I'll just move to the next clowns who are cheapest in
    the field.

The funny thing is a couple of companies I've dealt with more than once :)

We have both gas and reverse cycle heating, as far as heating the house
the gas is by far the best but we use it sparingly due to cost, one hour
of gas heating in the morning mostly because it heats our bedroom and
ensuite then electric for the rest of the time if needed.
With 11.2kw of solar and no battery we haven't had an electricity bill
since we moved into the house a bit more than 5.5 yrs ago, we used to
earn enough from the FIT to even pay the gas bill but not anymore, still
have a couple of hundred $ in electricity credit, may consider a battery
when and if we end up with a bill.

Agree, nothing more than theft and greed, what makes it worse is the
State and Fed Govts let them get away with it, the arseholes must be
getting a "rebate" in their back pockets.

In NSW and QLD, (around 2010 from memory)the state govts actively
encouraged the raping of customers after they fucked up. A bit...

They told the Distributors to improve the networks in prep for sale. And
were told for every million you spend, well repay 1.1 mill. So they
(Ergon, Energex, Ausgrid...) went berserk and spent $40 billion. When
the state govts found out about this, they cut the distributors budgets
by 20% for two years. How did they get their money back? The customers,
in higher retail prices, a precedent to this day.

    from Google:

"Gold plating" of power lines, in the context of energy infrastructure,
refers to a regulatory issue where network providers over-invest in
their infrastructure, often exceeding what's necessary, and then pass
those costs onto consumers through increased electricity prices. This
practice is often criticized for inflating electricity bills while
potentially not leading to significant improvements in service quality
    or reliability.
    Here's a more detailed explanation:
    Over-investment:
Network companies, which are often monopolies, may invest in upgrades
and expansions beyond what's required to meet current or future demand.
    Passing on costs:
These investments are typically included in the "regulatory asset base,"
which is used to calculate network charges passed on to consumers.
    Increased electricity prices:
As a result of the over-investment, electricity prices can rise, even
when demand for electricity is stable or declining.
    Lack of transparency:
Critics argue that the complex regulatory frameworks allow network
companies to obscure the true costs of their investments, making it
difficult for consumers to understand and challenge price increases.
    Impact on consumers:
The practice of "gold plating" can lead to higher electricity bills, potentially disproportionately impacting low-income households and
    businesses.
    "Gold plating" vs. legitimate upgrades:
It's important to distinguish between necessary upgrades for network resilience and "gold plating." While some upgrades are essential for maintaining reliable power supply, others may be driven by incentives
for network companies to maximize profits, rather than by genuine needs. Examples of "gold plating":
Examples of "gold plating" include over-specifying the size and capacity
of new infrastructure, building redundant infrastructure, or undertaking unnecessary upgrades.

In all my experience with solar a 13.5 kw battery is more like 1.2kw battery
due to the nature of how batteries work and solar controller charge,
The solar controller only works in top 10 percent of the battery.
I have tried to design my own solar system that works except seem to be
stuck with how it's already done,
Having a 12v array regulated down to charge 2volt cells and having 6
seperate 12v array on 2volt cells to give a 12volt storage battery may be
most effective way to charge in winter when panel voltage decreases to a
    third

Most professional solar installation use 2 volt cells, because they seem to
be more effective at charging from solar even as a battery bank of 12volt Especially when battery voltage drops to 10 volts
As I said a special solar controller needs to be designed
