The rCLmisled beforerCY was about 2006 when I used the word rCLescumarCY in Spanish,
having learned it from the etymology section of rCLscumrCY of the OED, where it
documented that the rCLThe Teut. word was adopted in Rom. as OF. escume (mod.
F. |-cume), Pr., Sp. Pg. escuma, It. schiuma.rCY
The native speaker of Spanish to whom I used it did not recognise it, and indeed rCLescumarCY is not a Spanish word, though it exists in Portuguese. (I
cannot comment on Proven|oal.) rCLSchiumarCY exists.
I sent them an email at that point and didnrCOt hear anything back. IrCOm not
expecting to hear anything back regarding rCLescumarCY close on two decades out.
I donrCOt have access to the current OED (now I look the local county library
does have access, so I may call in to them in Letterkenny next time IrCOm up there in four weeks and join) and the free excerpts on the website do not stretch to the etymology of rCLscum.rCY If someone has the energy and the access, please report back and clarify if that error is still there.
I apologise I cannot remember who it was, but let me thank whoever mentioned they had access to the current OED through Manchester library, that prompted me
to arrange this.
I have recently acquired several hundred uncirculated 1967
(pre-decimal) pennies. Does anyone have a suggestion for what to do
with them?
