I'm cautiously looking forward o this since I'm familiar with all but
    two of the players.

Interesting to hear Tony Vlachos say he had earned $3 million from his
three appearances on US Survivor. (Actually it would have been that
much just from his two winning seasons - he probably won a few thousand
more from the season he left early plus $30K from the reunion shows he
    did).

I hadn't thought about it before but that makes him pretty unambiguously
the person with the highest total winnings from US Survivor and way
ahead of Sandra, Rob and anyone else.

I watched this last night, got distracted and forgot to post it. Impress editing for this promo! I found it strange that Tony and Parv both had confessionals shown but not a word from Cirie. The rest of the World
team did not impress me. The dude from South Africa sounds really cocky.

Tony is no doubt the leader in Survivor winnings. Unless they do another
$2 million season, I can't see anyone catching up to him. When it comes
to total reality TV winnings, I wonder if Tony is still the leader in
total winnings for U.S. Survivor players?

The South Africa guy, Rob, totally dominated the season he won and had complete control over that game. Yes, he did seem cocky in the video,
but the way he won his season was much more controlled and low-key, kind
of more like Yul or Kim in their winning seasons. Can't wait to see how
he does against flashier winners like David or Parvati.

I've mentioned before that Shonee is sort of the Oz equivalent of
Parvati, so it will definitely fun to see if these two interact and how.
Shonee has never won, and I think the reason she and George are on the
show is that they are both extremely flashy characters. George is an ex-politician and the closest thing the show has to Boston Rob. Very
full of himself, totally hogs the camera and every scene he is in.

A dark horse is Lisa who won the only Survivor NZ season. She is very
smart and very knowledgeable about US Survivor. Nobody will probably
know her and she could end up being very good.

And then there is Cirie. I really don't know what it means that she
didn't get a preview. I hope it doesn't mean she won and they are
trying to keep it low-key. Can you imagine if she somehow won both Oz
vs World and S50? Guess we will see.

I'm not sure a comp beast will win, though there are multiple candidates
for that. Both Ron and Kirby were excellent in physical challenges, and
on the opposite end, I'd guess Cirie and maybe Lisa would have little
chance in this area. But I think they will mix it up with puzzles and
mental challenges, and almost any of them could excel here.

Hadn't thought bout the jury, but you're right they could follow the
model of Survivor 40 and let everyone be on the jury. With the super
short season, it would seem to make sense.

I've mentioned before that Shonee is sort of the Oz equivalent of

I'll know for sure when I download the first episode tomorrow, but
Survivor Oz episodes usually run at least an hour and sometimes 90 minutes.

A dark horse is Lisa who won the only Survivor NZ season.-a She is very
smart and very knowledgeable about US Survivor.-a Nobody will probably
know her and she could end up being very good.

I wasn't impressed with her one bit based on the promo. I guess it's possible they made the World team look bad on purpose.

Agree - they made her seem much jerkier than she really is. It wouldn't surprise me if the dialogue in the promos was written by show producers.

And then there is Cirie.-a I really don't know what it means that she
didn't get a preview.-a I hope it doesn't mean she won and they are

I can't see Jeff and CBS casting Cirie if she won Australia vs. World.

You're assuming they knew she had won at that point. Although the
season had been filmed, I doubt the Oz show runners would have revealed
the winner to Jeff or the US producers.

OTOH, maybe they did reveal she had won, and Jeff decided to add her to
the cast precisely to see if she could win both shows, which would be extraordinary.

It would look really stupid if they promoted her as a five (?) time
player who's come close to winning but never has.

Would it look stupid or would be a possible amazing redemption arc? I
could see it either way. My guess is they cast her not knowing if she
    won Oz.

What is the prize money for this season?

I believe it's $250K Australian dollars which is around $165K US. This
is half the usual first prize of $500K Australian, which is maybe not surprising since it is well under half the usual season length.

One last point about the promo video, I was not expecting to see a clip
that included Jeff nor acknowledgment that U.S. Survivor is the
    granddaddy of the Survivor empire.

Even though it's technically not - the true granddaddy of the franchise
is actually Expedition Robinson, which aired in Sweden in 1997, a good
three years before the US version.

must some great appearance money to get someone like Tony to play.

Unless they keep their finances completely separate, you would think
she'd have more of a shot at being a 1 percenter than an underpaid
Public Defender in high cost-of-living NYC.

I hadn't thought about it before but that makes him pretty
unambiguously the person with the highest total winnings from US
Survivor and way ahead of Sandra, Rob and anyone else.

I watched this last night, got distracted and forgot to post it.
Impress editing for this promo! I found it strange that Tony and
Parv both had confessionals shown but not a word from Cirie. The
rest of the World team did not impress me. The dude from South
    Africa sounds really cocky.

Tony is no doubt the leader in Survivor winnings. Unless they do
another $2 million season, I can't see anyone catching up to him.
When it comes to total reality TV winnings, I wonder if Tony is
still the leader in total winnings for U.S. Survivor players?

The South Africa guy, Rob, totally dominated the season he won and
had complete control over that game.-a Yes, he did seem cocky in the
video, but the way he won his season was much more controlled and
low-key, kind of more like Yul or Kim in their winning seasons.
Can't wait to see how he does against flashier winners like David or
    Parvati.

With a 16 day season and 14 players, I doubt past performance will
mean much. If it's nonstop challenges then a comp beast will win. Do
you think everyone will make the jury? I do.

I'm not sure a comp beast will win, though there are multiple
candidates for that.-a Both Ron and Kirby were excellent in physical
challenges, and on the opposite end, I'd guess Cirie and maybe Lisa
would have little chance in this area.-a But I think they will mix it
up with puzzles and mental challenges, and almost any of them could
    excel here.

Hadn't thought bout the jury, but you're right they could follow the
model of Survivor 40 and let everyone be on the jury.-a With the super
short season, it would seem to make sense.

I've mentioned before that Shonee is sort of the Oz equivalent of
Parvati, so it will definitely fun to see if these two interact and
how. -a-aShonee has never won, and I think the reason she and George
are on the show is that they are both extremely flashy characters.
George is an ex-politician and the closest thing the show has to
Boston Rob. Very full of himself, totally hogs the camera and every
    scene he is in.

Have they said how long the episodes are going to be? It would kind
of suck the season was nothing but confessionals and flashbacks.

I'll know for sure when I download the first episode tomorrow, but
Survivor Oz episodes usually run at least an hour and sometimes 90
    minutes.

A dark horse is Lisa who won the only Survivor NZ season.-a She is
very smart and very knowledgeable about US Survivor.-a Nobody will
probably know her and she could end up being very good.

I wasn't impressed with her one bit based on the promo. I guess it's
possible they made the World team look bad on purpose.

Agree - they made her seem much jerkier than she really is.-a It
wouldn't surprise me if the dialogue in the promos was written by show
    producers.

And then there is Cirie.-a I really don't know what it means that she >>>> didn't get a preview.-a I hope it doesn't mean she won and they are
trying to keep it low-key.-a Can you imagine if she somehow won both
Oz vs World and S50?-a Guess we will see.

I can't see Jeff and CBS casting Cirie if she won Australia vs. World.

You're assuming they knew she had won at that point.-a Although the
season had been filmed, I doubt the Oz show runners would have
revealed the winner to Jeff or the US producers.

OTOH, maybe they did reveal she had won, and Jeff decided to add her
to the cast precisely to see if she could win both shows, which would
    be extraordinary.

It would look really stupid if they promoted her as a five (?) time
player who's come close to winning but never has.

Would it look stupid or would be a possible amazing redemption arc?-a I
could see it either way.-a My guess is they cast her not knowing if she
    won Oz.

What is the prize money for this season?

I believe it's $250K Australian dollars which is around $165K US.
This is half the usual first prize of $500K Australian, which is maybe
not surprising since it is well under half the usual season length.

Interesting. Cirie got $250K for winning The Traitors and that's just
two weeks of shooting under much better conditions than Survivor. There
must some great appearance money to get someone like Tony to play.

I don't know. Tony said he's not playing for the money but for the
glory of proving he's the best. I think the chance to become the first
(and maybe last ever) three-time winner in the world must be pretty compelling.

commercials, so they should have plenty of time to introduce everyone
and move the story. I will watch it later today and try to post a few reactions.

If I had to predict, my guess is that Tony will be the first one out as
a two-time winner and biggest Survivor money-winner. After that, the
smart thing would be to get rid of any other previous winners, which
would include David, Parvati, Lisa, Rob, and possibly Kass and Tommi,
from Canada and Finland, whom I am not familiar with but probably
wouldn't be included if they hadn't already won. I'm assuming the
players would all know who the previous winners were.

If I'm rooting for anyone, it's probably Kirby, who played pretty well

One last point about the promo video, I was not expecting to see a clip
that included Jeff nor acknowledgment that U.S. Survivor is the
    granddaddy of the Survivor empire.

this degree of anger and bitterness, not to mention wealth envy.

And I don't understand her weirdly puzzling claim that Eliza has been

    defender in NYC.

I thought Steph's married to a former pitcher for the Phillies? Eliza
has said more than once over the years that she could be making where
money in private practice. I'm sure she's not suffering but she's no
    1%er either.

Someone posted a link that shows Eliza is still a member of the bar in

I think Sandra played Australian Survivor mainly because they gave her a chance to play with her daughter, as it was a Blood vs. Water season.
Her daughter Nina turned out to be a great player, was instantly
accepted by and bonded with her Aussie teammates, and I believe she
ended up helping vote out her mom because the votes were already stacked against her. Sadly, Nina later had to leave the game due to a medical emergency, but she did return on a returning players' season (but didn't

I just downloaded the first episode and it is 82 minutes without
    commercials.-a So that's equivalent to a 2-hour premiere with
commercials, so they should have plenty of time to introduce everyone
and move the story.-a I will watch it later today and try to post a few
    reactions.

Is it not possible to watch off of their website?

I believe you can, but you need to use a VPN set to Australia. I just
find it easier to download the episodes and I also like to keep a copy
for later viewing. As you note elsewhere, at least the first episode is
    also being shown on YouTube.

If I had to predict, my guess is that Tony will be the first one out
as a two-time winner and biggest Survivor money-winner.-a-a After that,
the smart thing would be to get rid of any other previous winners,
which would include David, Parvati, Lisa, Rob, and possibly Kass and
Tommi, from Canada and Finland, whom I am not familiar with but
probably wouldn't be included if they hadn't already won.-a I'm
assuming the players would all know who the previous winners were.

    There's a Canadian playing?

Yes, Kass is from Survivor Quebec, a French-language version of the show
I have never watched. I just checked and she finished tied for second
    on her season.

If I'm rooting for anyone, it's probably Kirby, who played pretty well
on her one season and has a pretty good story and a lot going for her.
It would also be cool for me to see Tony win a third time, but I just
don't believe it can happen.-a And I always kind of liked Parvati, so
her winning would be okay with me.-a Ditto Lisa, Shonee and Rob.

I need to watch the promo video again. Is Kirby the very good looking
    woman from Australia?

Other than Cirie, the only players I really don't want to see win are
David and George who are both camera hogs and totally full of
themselves.-a I especially dislike David who is the guy who set the
reality winning record on DONDI.-a Luke has always been a fan favorite,
but he's also a ham and I'm a little tired of him after multiple
appearances.-a But he also has an endearing backstory with his family
and child, and I guess I'd be okay with him winning.

Do these guys do after the fact reunion shows? I'd love to see how they would handle this one.

No, they do a vote-out show to reveal the final winner, but at least the
last few times have not done a reunion show. I agree that would be cool
    to watch.

And I don't understand her weirdly puzzling claim that Eliza has
been "disbarred".-a As far as I know, she's still a respected public
    defender in NYC.

I thought Steph's married to a former pitcher for the Phillies? Eliza
has said more than once over the years that she could be making where
money in private practice. I'm sure she's not suffering but she's no
    1%er either.

Someone posted a link that shows Eliza is still a member of the bar
in New York state. Weird that Steph would make an accusation that is
    so easy to fact check.

You're right - Steph married a former MLB pitcher for the Phillies.
Unless they keep their finances completely separate, you would think
she'd have more of a shot at being a 1 percenter than an underpaid
Public Defender in high cost-of-living NYC.

Eliza's definitely not rich rich. Steph seems to have gone all out with
the stereotypes assuming she's rich because she's Jewish.

She is also showing incredible hypocrisy given her own obvious wealth.
One website I checked estimates her net worth as $25 million, which
seems about right given her husband's MLB salary history.

been "disbarred".-a As far as I know, she's still a respected public >>>>> defender in NYC.

I thought Steph's married to a former pitcher for the Phillies?
Eliza has said more than once over the years that she could be
making where money in private practice. I'm sure she's not suffering
    but she's no 1%er either.

Steph seems to have gone all out
with the stereotypes assuming she's rich because she's Jewish.

She is also showing incredible hypocrisy given her own obvious wealth.
One website I checked estimates her net worth as $25 million, which
seems about right given her husband's MLB salary history.

Yeah, I doubt Eliza's worth anywhere near that amount.
