The first step to identity theft is your driver's license. It is recommended that you never allow anyone to make a copy of it. Best grow a backbone and not fear telling people that they can see your DL, but you won't allow them to copy it. Your DL is a vital document. Back in the 90s, a motel wanted to make a copy of my DL and I refused to allow it. She asked why and I told her that it was the first step to identity theft. When I go to a doctor lately (just yesterday) they said that they were just going to run my DL through a little machine (a scanner), but I refused to hand it over. I tell them that they can look at it in my hand only. You also have to keep you DL in your hand if someone at a store wants to see it. I handed my DL to a checkout person at BestBuy and he looked at it and then dropped his hand down to a camera below the desk and took a photo of it.
Because of this DL copying, I have made a photo of my DL with my phone, transfered it to my computer, and blocked all but name and address.
