• "eelbash" one and only

browsing extensive archives of this and other related newsgroups, alt.privacy, alt.security, alt.security.pgp, sci.crypt, etc., suggests that network server administrators (http, smtp, nntp, anonymous remailers etc.) have strict rules about established protocols, standards of inclusion versus exclusion, tending to be more liberal than not, e.g. usenet cross-posting, spamming ad infinitum, they would rather tolerate borderline chaos (e.g. googlespam) than succumb to severe restrictions with mission creep, down the slippery slope into oblivion

historically, the anonymous remailer network and its users have seen hundreds of remailers come and go, some very short-lived, others lasting for months or years before falling off the radar (and the familiar few that are still there while retaining their original names) . . . yet forsooth, for reasons unclear, one particular remailer, most famously known as "eelbash", is entirely unique because no matter how many times its operatives have rebranded and repackaged their corporate identity, eelbash just keeps coming back like a fish to water

perhaps an unintended consequence of using such a strange name, this remailer appears to have very close ties to the status quo, promoting pseudonymous tor- mailers, opposing anonymous remailers, cavalier beyond compare (one and only) so that could explain why remops, sysadmins, programmers, engineers, security experts everywhere, the academic world are reluctant to call down the thunder or bite the hand that feeds them, so they make allowances, look the other way, knowing that anonymous remailer users should always be careful, avoid trouble
