Yeah, I received the mail as well. I already paid for 2026, not that I
mind. I've written them an e-mail to thank them and to please
reconsider, but I don't think it'll do any good. I've used them for
years and I can't remember them being down even once.

I now have Eternal September, Solani and Astraweb, where I bought a
block of 25 GiB for 10 US dollar in 2013.
    (I still have 24,95 GiB left :-).

I wonder if that was a policy decision by Freien Universit|nt Berlin.

I can imagine some 'downside' risk from the perspective of a uni.

The "style" of the closure would likely be different, if
    that was not the case.

For example, if the operation was bankrupt say, the closure
might not even net a message about it.

A "controlled descent", with a time span like that, implies
a policy coming from somewhere. I do not define my retirement
in 2.000 years, I bugger off at some random time, like maybe
I can clean up the mess in three months and leave. Having a
defined date of such precision implies an external factor.
Like a lease for a space.

My interpretation of their letter is that:

    - current subscribers can no longer renew
    - current subscribers can continue use of the service, no charge
    - no new subscribers as of now
    - so the current subscribers get a copper parachute

That's 'nice', except for the loss of an excellent NSP.
