yes. that is not the reason. it doesn't matter how many or what
programs I favorite, none show up.
Ok, I see what's happening. the favored programs are in the menu side
panel. I was looking for them in the 'favorites' folder - the one with
the star in the first column of the menu. why are they not in that
folder?
Can you make a screen shot and share a link?-a-a I only have the side
panel of favorites, no star.

you can see there are only folders in there, except for
Libreoffice-calc, a desktop icon. if I create a desktop icon for a
program and favorite it, it appears there, but if I favorite just the
program from the start menu it appears only in the side menu.
