    I'm favoring programs and folders, but only folders appear in the

    Do you have enough room? Drag the top of the menu up to enlarge. Or visa versa if you
    have a top panel.

    yes. that is not the reason. it doesn't matter how many or what programs
    I favorite, none show up.

    Ok, I see what's happening. the favored programs are in the menu side
    panel. I was looking for them in the 'favorites' folder - the one with
    the star in the first column of the menu. why are they not in that folder?

    you can see there are only folders in there, except for
    Libreoffice-calc, a desktop icon. if I create a desktop icon for a
    program and favorite it, it appears there, but if I favorite just the
    program from the start menu it appears only in the side menu.
