• Thunderbird, Claws and ChatGPT

For weeks I have been using Claws for sending emails.
I realy don't like it but Thunderbird wouldn't send.

Yesterday I was determined to finally concentrate on the problem.

ChatGPT is a bit Windows-centric unless you challenge it, so progress
    is slow.

After masses of testing, ChatGPT suggested trying new profile.

    That certainly worked.

Then came the problem of getting as much data, address book, saved
messages etc from theold to new profile. That is going slowly but going.

Now I want to export the Sent messages from Claws to Thunderbird.

According to ChatGPT you start by locating Claws Sent folder.

    Not so easy.

I could find two: sent and Sent

Both are under: .claws-mail->tagsdb->#mh->Mailbox and both contain one
item named .claws-tags. One of 628 bytes, the second "Sent" with 4
    bytes.

There is also an Outbox also with a claws-tags of 4 bytes

I don't know what to make of it.

ChatGPT often lies - convincingly. So ...

Usually we start with details such as if this was POP3 or IMAP or whatever.

Maybe the received mails aren't on the machine ?

    https://man.archlinux.org/man/claws-mail.1.en

    $HOME/Mail
Default directory for mail storage. <=== That's if the email is actually on the machine

For fun, we can also try some Compare And Contrast, by finding
a discussion about the Windows version. It seems the storage on
    Claws is programmable.

    *******

Claws is also available for Windows.

    https://www.claws-mail.org/win32/

    Download Claws-Mail for Windows (32-bit) GTK+ 2 claws-mail-3.21.0-1-32bit.exe (GPG signature)

    Download Claws-Mail for Windows (64-bit) GTK+ 2 claws-mail-3.21.0-1-64bit.exe (GPG signature)

    Download Claws-Mail for Windows (32-bit) GTK+ 3 claws-mail-4.3.1-1-32bit.exe (GPG signature)

    Download Claws-Mail for Windows (64-bit) GTK+ 3 claws-mail-4.3.1-1-64bit.exe (GPG signature)

So let's look at a comment for Windows profile of the product.

    https://users.claws-mail.narkive.com/hbkCPoH7/windows-mail-folder-location

"I have created a few subfolders to the default Mailbox (MH) folder
structure and created and even imported a few emails in them to play
with. I am aware of the folder

    C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Claws-mail

but it doesn't contain a subfolder named "Mail"
but only what to me seems like the database for tagging emails:

    \tagsdb\#mh\Mailbox\....

In fact the whole \Claws-mail folder mentioned above
is not even big enough to contain all these emails.
    "

    "
    C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\<mailboxname>\Mail <=== What is your "mailboxname" ?
    Search your disk for this.
You can just remove the MH folder tree from Claws Mail, move it
wherever you want, and then add it again (via "File/Add Mailbox/MH..."
menu) using full path, e.g. "d:\my stuff\workmail". You can also create
new mailboxes using full path, so that they won't be placed in the
default location, but where you want them.
    "

That tells me that Claws is flexible, and via settings, the
storage can be split into multiple places. You would then
be advised to check the dotfiles mentioned in the above thread
    for details. folderrc clawsrc

Now, go back to the Arch Linux (the first link above), and
    re-read it for some perspective.

Who needs an AI, really :-) Right ?

All you need in life, is a car, car keys, and beer money.

To export mail from Claws Mail to Thunderbird, first, open Claws Mail and select "File" then "Export to MBOX Files" to save your emails.
After that, use Thunderbird's ImportExportTools add-on to import the MBOX files into Thunderbird.

Exporting Mail from Claws Mail to Thunderbird
Step 1: Export Emails from Claws Mail

Open Claws Mail on your device.
    Click on the File menu.
Select Export to MBOX Files from the drop-down menu.
Choose the folders you wish to export and decide the location to save
    the files.
Click Save to complete the export.

Step 2: Import MBOX Files into Thunderbird

Install and open Mozilla Thunderbird on your system.
Download and install the ImportExportTools NG add-on.
Right-click on the Local Folders in Thunderbird.
    Select ImportExportTools NG.
Choose Import MBOX file and then select Import one or more MBOX files.
Navigate to the location where you saved the exported MBOX files and select them.
Click OK to start the import process.

    Additional Tips

Ensure that you have the latest version of Thunderbird for better compatibility.
If you encounter issues, consider using a migration tool specifically designed for Claws Mail to Thunderbird, which can automate the process
    and handle any format discrepancies.

By following these steps, you can successfully transfer your emails from
    Claws Mail to Thunderbird.

For that to work you have to have a version of Thunderbird that supports ImportExportTools.
The version supplied with Linux Mint 22 does not!
