Russian transport minister fired by Putin reportedly shoots himself dead

Editor's note: This is a developing story and is being updated.

Russia's former Transport Minister Roman Starovoit shot himself dead in Odintsovo following his dismissal by President Vladimir Putin on July 7, the pro-government newspaper Izvestia reported, citing unnamed sources.

Starovoit's ouster came after nearly 500 flights were grounded at major Russian
airports on July 5-6 due to security threats from Ukrainian drone attacks.

The following day, an explosion aboard the Eco Wizard tanker at the Ust-Luga port in Leningrad Oblast triggered an ammonia leak, adding to the crisis engulfing Russia's transportation sector.

Starovoit, sanctioned by Ukraine and Western countries for his role in the war against Ukraine, had served as governor of Russia's Kursk Oblast before being appointed transport minister in May 2024.

sadly sure seems to fit the facts of the case--best as one can tell from
news reports originating on the other side of the planet, at least.

For more than a fortnight now, this site has been operating QUITE
erratically, at least with my postings (which are invariably composed on
an Apple "All-in-One" desktop machine, if that might for some reason
make a difference).

Seems about 80% of my first attempts at posting a new thread (or even
merely replying to an already established one) result in a rejecting
kick-back in a variety of textual styles; sometimes I'm informed there
are "no articles available", or instead just a simple posting-failed
alert (telling me to wait a while and try again--even though almost
always it's ANOTHER failure, although the explanatory text may differ.)

Anyone know what's going on here? THANKS IN ADVANCE!

The News administrator died a few months ago, although we didn't start
a thread on it in this newsgroup. You may wish to become a user on news.eternal-september.org. No one is maintaining this and at some point
it will be taken down.

I'll give that a try, but my track-record on mastering the ins and outs
of unfamiliar-to-me websites is NOT good; website format uniformity
seems all but non-existent these days to me, as I find they pretty much
ALL have their quirks that demand mastery of new protocols.

But just maybe I'll be able to competently navigate that "September"
site--a Seattle pal of mine has mentioned it to me, too--and you'll soon
see my idiosyncratic postings there. (Or not, given my cyber-inept
history.)

"i2pn2.org" has been much discussed in news:news.admin.peering and elsewhere, this announcement in news:rocksolid.nodes.announce (dated 28 april 2025) was forwared here (alt.obituaries) too <20250505095307.06879ea4@ryz.dorfdsl.de> (dated 5 may 2025), but the aptly-named "rocksolid" server has been running unreliably since mid-march (likely unattended), plus script kiddie exploits started around 28 june 2025 <security-emergency-20250628000000@novabbs.com>, but that soon stopped without further incident (i.e. in news.admin.peering)

newsgrouper https://newsgrouper.org/ is a popular alternative to rocksolid
for those accustomed to using a web-based interface with usenet newsgroups, e.g., the first confirmed report that the rocksolid sysop had in fact died:
