To a first reading, it looks like Bob was contesting the facts, and
arguing
that the deaths did, indeed, occur 3 months ago. That was also my take, until I realized that wasn't his intent. Rather, he was just nitpicking
the date notation - arguing that July 3 should be written 3/7 rather
than 7/3.
