    Hi Claire,

One can not believe most of what appears on you tube, so
    I thought I'd as a Canadian directly.

Is it true that four of your western providence are going
to vote on referendums to "succeed from the federation"?

Is so, if the vote passes will it be automatic?
Will Ottawa send in troops? Will there be blood shed?
Or will the vote just be ignored and thing go on as
    usual?

    -T

Kind of sad to see you guys breaking up.

I'm not Canadian but there's no way Ottawa will allow the western
provinces to secede. If they did then Quebec would be next because
they've been wanting to do that for ages. It's much like Texas
threatening to secede every few years. Sometimes even California. The
federal government wouldn't allow half their economy to just walk away.

I'm sure the US would welcome the western provinces of Canada as the
    51st state though...

If the provinces did succeed, they could set up a free
trade zone with the US. It would be a tremendous boom
    for them.

Will they use cheat-o-matic voting machines?

    *secede*, not "succeed".

Those two words have very different meanings.

Montana and Alberta have more in common with each other than DC and Ottawa respectively. One problem is both are landlocked, with Washington state
and British California between them and the sea. That is the problem with Cascadia. Portland, Seattle, and Vancouver are poison pills.

Do you know if the referendums are actually happening
or is it your tube baloney?

If real and they pass, what will transpire?
    Troops? Nothing?

    https://policyoptions.irpp.org/2025/06/alberta-separatism/

Long story. The United Conservative Party is the current government and
has made it easier to get a referendum on the ballot, but it will be at
least a year if they can get enough signatures. Another group, Forever
Canada, is also collecting signatures in opposition to secession.

It's not a new thing. Part of the UCPs genealogy includes Wild Rose,
Alberta Alliance, and the Reform Party. I've got a button pinned on the curtains from sometime in the '90s that the Reform Party was handing out
    'It's YOUR country NOT theirs'.

Even without a referendum the UCP is clawing back areas that Ottawa would
like to control. It's similar to Montana saying 'hell no' to No Child Left Behind, Real ID, Federal marijuana laws, some of the covid crap, and so
    forth.

The Greater Idaho movement may have a more realistic chance. Eastern
Oregon doesn't want to secede from the US, they just want to become part
of Idaho. Eastern Washington gets restless periodically but they would
prefer to be their own state.

The problem with Alberta becoming the 51st state may be jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire. There is no guarantee the Democrats won't be back with a vengeance.
